How hard was it for you to become Vegan?!

Question: How hard was it for you to become Vegan?
Answers:

I found it really hard. I was a chef and was around non-vegan foods all the time when I first tried it in 1999. I lasted a few days, but some things stuck like I kept using soy milk. Anyway I didn't have any support, and when I finally went vegan in 2004 I had a few vegan friends who showed me the ropes and from then on it was no problem.

At first it was really easy... and then I went through a couple weeks, when it was at the beach with friends, when I really wanted pizza and yogurt and ziti and it was hard, because I was basically living off luna bars, veg baked beans, bread, and salad- there weren't many options.
Basically- when I am home, have a variety of options, can cook, its not hard at all! Even eating out at home usually isn't that bad, because I can take time to check the options before I go, its not like the beach where you're wandering about going wherever looks/smells good :)

I do think it depends a lot on what you eat now- I never really liked much dairy except for yogurt and certain cheeses, and didn't like eggs. Plus, I cook A LOT and I spent time baking and cooking vegan before going 100%, which I think helped because I had yummy staple recipes that I could eat instead of going into it with no idea what I was going to eat.
It also depends in what environment you live- my family isn't 'omg its so great', they roll their eyes when I put my tempeh or earth balance in the cart- but they let me put it in the cart, and that's what counts :) If you live at home and your parents are very against veganism, of course you'll have trouble.

It was not really that hard. The repulsions of how animals are treated in "factory farms" was enough to make me committed. I'm having fun learning to cook, trying new recipes, learning about nutrition, and shopping for healthy whole foods to add to my diet. I feel that if I can do it anyone can lol. I never had the self control to "diet" and now I don't really need to because I eat the healthiest I've ever eaten before. The hardest part is dealing with those who don't really understand your choices.

i am at my first steps in becoming a vegan and it is hard. i still can't cook so i am feeding on cereals and soy juice and tomato juice currently. i make tofu out of soybeans sometimes. well the only problem i got now is that i am not a good cook but i know i will get good at it eventually.

Wasn't hard at all, before I went vegan I tried out and found out what I liked to substitute the dairy and eggs with. Then I just stopped with dairy and eggs completely and it was easy. Lots of reading labels and such. But it was really easy, when I made up my mind.

Not very hard at all. I was lacto-ovo-vegetarian for 5 years before hand so it wasn't too difficult. Once I did my research and found out about what I was eating, I was repulsed by the 'food' and also how it was obtained. I didn't even crave it afterwards :)

I am a vegetarian, but I have tried in the past to become strictly vegan, and it was too tough. I admire those who can do it, but I still can't resist a little cheese on my veggies.

Not at all. I was vegetarian for 4 years before I became vegan, and the second I learned about the dairy and egg industries, I instantly became vegan without any second thought.

vegan :D

Easy as vegan pie, but only because I was vegetarian first.

watch scott pilgrim vs the world and you will know how hard it is to become a vegan.

I LOVE ANIMALS AND I DO NOT ENJOY EATING MEAT.

Vegans who become vegan just to make a point I think have serious mental issues.

I have multiple health problems. I am lactose intolerant. I am diabetic. I can not eat greasy food. I get sick on most meat. The only beef I can eat without getting an upset stomach is a new york steak. I can eat a little sea food. I do eat a piece of pepperoni once in a while but I know it will get me later.

So I do not milk products what so ever. It is soy everything. I eat Smart Dogs, and Soy burgers etc. If you buy the right brand they are really good. They even have soy meat balls and they are great.

I know that eggs come from animals and that is against being a vegan right? Well I eat eggs a lot. And a lot of bread, which is bad for me since I am diabetic, but I have to eat something. And I eat soup. And Bushes backed beans in a burrito. And that is about it. Pretty limited diet.

So for me I am like an 80% vegan by non choice.
