Humans are omnivores, so why do people think we can live without animal protein in our diets?!
Studies have linked veganism to schizophrenia. Humans require animal protein to complete protein strands that are necessary for healthy cell growth and regeneration. Without the animal protein, how is it possible to form these healthy protein strands? Muscles and the brain are the first to suffer from no new formation of protein strands.
It is true that the average American consumes far too much meat. I believe about 3 servings of meat are what are considered to be what a human requires to be healthy, not 3 servings a day.

It's all ignorance. We humans have digestive tracts intended to absorb nutrients from both plant-based and animal-based foods.

Not really true. There's pretty good proof that we were once vegetarians. Compare our intestinal tract to other herbivores and carnivores. (length and other ways)
Though I do agree we should eat meat now. We evolved doing it.
@Daya - that's a terrible argument. Not all carnivores are built to tear off meat from a wildebeest. There are insect eating carnivores and other smaller creatures which our teeth are fine for. There are big meat eaters that have lived past 100. Long-term effects of vegetarians are not known - as in genetic effects.
I am a vegetarian. I am because I hate the thought of eating animals, it just grosses me out. I'm haven't eaten meat in 16 months, so of course it's okay, if you get enough protein. You can do that by eating other protein rich foods like peanut butter and soy products. Additionally, there are some health benefits to not eating meat. You have a lowered chance of cancer, and heart disease.

and myself.
Good Grief...another omnivore comes into this section claiming she is a know it all. You have no clue. There are millions of people who avoid animal protein and live to be well into their 90's. Next time you hunt and kill something and tear off raw flesh with those so called carnvore teeth..let me know.
First off I am a hunter and a meat eater but eating meat is not a requirement for surviving. It is a personal preference. I have a brother who is a vegetarian and has been for 30 or so years. There are alternatives if someone does not want to eat meat.
To Dayanara, I hunt and process the meat myself and freeze it for use through out the year when the season is closed. I do not apologize for it and do not expect anyone to conform to my views on it. This is the difference. It seems you feel it is your way or wrong. I don't feel the need to force my views on anyone.
