Are vegans always skinny?!
My cousin especially is actually close to being over weight. I know it's more about the quantity of calories when talking about gaining weight, but I find it hard to believe that she's not 'cheating' on her vegan diet.
Generally are vegans skinny? Or is it normal for my cousin to be close to over weight while being vegan?

No, vegans are not always skinny. I'm a vegan, and I'm definitely not skinny. But I'm not obese, and I'm not really even overweight. I'm muscular. It's very possible to get an excess of calories when you're on a vegan diet. Gaining or losing weight is about a calorie deficit, and you can get that with vegan foods exactly as you can get it with non-vegan foods. Vegans come in all different sizes, depending on their build, eating habits, exercise habits, etc. It's perfectly "normal" for your cousin to be the size she is.
Vegans can be any size, its all about your metabolism and how much you eat and how many calories you consume.
But usually vegans are an average weight. If you treat your body well that's all that matters.
The really skinny vegans usually are the ones who are doing it for a diet so they are probably watching what they eat as well as not eating as much fat.but people who are doing it for ethical reasons only will eat pretty normal amounts and not check their calories as frequently or not at all.
at least not in my experience.I don't really think you can generalize, everyone is pretty different with their eating habits.
It used to be vegans were all super skinny. Then came the VEGGIE PATTIES and TOFFUTI PATTUTI whatchathinguttis pasta faux chicken, which taste like meat and look like meat; however they have the consistency of corn meal. And they are about as healthy as a McDouble at McDonald's. (I think that's what the product is called...I don't eat fast food.)
Ultimately, there isn't a secret to being overweight or not. The key is: calories in vs. calories out. What kinds of foods is the person consuming?
Regardless if he is a vegan, frutarian, or Mormon - what I've said above applies.
I can't see how a vegan could be obese or anything, but a little overweight I could. We can still eat oreos and swedish fish, chips etc. I cut out meat, dairy, eggs and animal by products (honey, gelatin etc) and I've lost about 24 lbs so far. I do have a few junk food snacks every once and a while, but other than that I eat healthy and I'm thin.
vegan
well i guess some people just have a slow metabolism. A friend of mine is a vegan, i know she doesnt cheat because i always see her eating things like vegetable soup and black coffee. yet she is not very thin, maybe a bit chubby in fact. She must have a slow metabolism.
It is normal to be overweight while being vegan. It isnt so much what you eat but also how much you eat, and yes genetics may play a role. The main thing is to look out for things like iron deficiency.
lol look at this list of natural vegan sources of high calorie/fat foods:

I've been an omnivore, a vegetarian and currently a vegan of 4 years. I've weighed pretty much the same the entire time.
Of course not you can still gain weight by not exercising and or being lazy.
Lol. Once you get the hang of it, a vegan diet is not really "restrictive." The possibilities and combinations are endless! I find myself constantly trying out yummy recipes. My diet is pretty low fat, high fiber most of the time. But I guess you can definitely still gain weight as a vegan if you don't watch out for high fat, high calorie, fried and sugary foods. My guilty pleasure are vegan pastries and chocolate. I am not really "skinny" just average eating whatever I want, being pretty sedentary right not now :( . I agree, exercising is also very important which I should start an exercise routine asap for my health too!!
LOL. No, vegans are not always skinny. Many people "go vegan" to lose weight. It works for some; doesn't work for some. There are plenty of vegan junk foods available. In fact, many people gain on a vegan diet. They don't like vegetables, so they don't eat enough calories from real food and fill in with junk food.
