Do I need to become vegetarian?!

Question: Do I need to become vegetarian?
to support animal rights? I feel like it might be hypocritical if I do anything and then eat meat later.

Answers:

No you don't. You can fight for better treatment of animals. Years ago, they used to be able "roam free" ie free range and eat the foods nature intended. Now, farmers get greedy and shove them all in intolerable and unsafe conditions and feed them food that makes them get fat, produce more milk etc. so that farmers get more money.
I see nothing wrong with advocating for better treatment of animals and still eating meat. Also, many animals are "mistreated" for scientific/medical research, killed just for their fur, used to test make up and products, etc. so you can take a stand that way too. Awareness is awareness, and personally I think more good can be done by actually doing more than just not eating meat. I.e. picketing, helping others become aware, etc.
But it's a personal choice, so you have to do what is right for you!

Animal rights? Yes.

Animal welfare? Not necessarily. If you don't want to be a vegetarian, but want to support animal welfare, you could either look around for places that kill the animals in the quickest and most humane way, or you could hunt.. and that way, you would know the animal was killed quickly.

You should be a vegetarian only if you want to be one.

Read about Dr. Temple Grandin. She developed, and many beef processors have adopted, a peaceful method of ending the life of cattle for beef processing. Consider where your beef, poultry and fish comes from. Did this animal spend it's entire life cooped up in a pen or what it allowed to roam free and eat naturally? Consider the quality of life of the animal you eat - eat mindfully. That's supporting animal rights also.

If you support animal rights, it would make the most sense to become a vegetarian (or vegan). The best way you can support the rights of an animal to life is by not eating that animal.

You can read more about the ethics of eating meat here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethics_of_e…

well no, because vegetarianism supports animal welfare (the right for animals to be exploited humanely) not animal rights (the right for animals to live lives free of human exploitation).

if you care about animal rights, go vegan.

You don't *need* to. It's your choice. If you want to support animal rights and become veg, it's a great thing to do.

You cant really support the rights of animals by eating them...

More info needed. What animal "rights" are you supporting? The right to go to the mall? The right to cross the street? The right to vote?

"Rights" are given by those to those who respect each others rights. Animals have no concept of rights. When the lion starts respecting the right of the zebra to live, I'll give some thought to animal "rights." Otherwise animal "rights" are simply a joke from a group of people recruiting you to advertise their agenda, buy their stuff and memberships.

No, humans are omnivores, so none of us need to try to follow an unnatural diet that causes malnutrition. "Animal rights" is an oxymoron. Rights denote responsibility for them, and other animals do not have the intelligence necessary to earn any rights.

Meat is a natural part of the human diet. So if you are worried about the animals you eat being treated inhumanely try buying kosher meats. The animals are supposedly raised and killed more humanely. Hope this helps...

Do animals eat meat? Then shut up!
