I have no particular objection to the concept of reasonable animal rights, that still allow for usage and consumption of animals and animal products.

What I object to, though, are the animal rights "activists" that feel obligated to force their misguided beliefs on everybody else by claiming they have a "social responsibility" to "educate" us.
I bet you know who I mean, don't you Blah?

My only question: what sorts of rights should animals have and should those rights apply to ALL animals (not just the cute or tasty ones)?

The right to live without suffering? One could argue that many humans don't even have that right.

The right to own land? How about to vote?

Before you begin to talk about "animal rights", you first need to define them, not only which "rights" you mean but also which "animals" you mean.

Does a cockroach have any less right to live than a dog? If we maintain shelters for abandoned and starving cats, why not for abandoned and starving deer?

Kudos to you for having an animal rights website! It's hard to triage which animal cruelty issues are most important b/c they're all important: "Farm" animals, animals used for entertainment in circuses and aquarium shows, dogs and cats, lab animals, reducing the cruelty in hunting, etc. The ignorant responses here show that there's a lot of animal rights work to be done!

Do animals have the right to live in a clean environment free from industrial pollutants?

I ask because I see a lot of vegans and peta-types wearing PVC and other synthetics that introduce horrible manufacturing waste into various biomes; some of which are carcinogenic or mutagenic. Is it ok to hurt animals this way if you don't have to see them or no blood is spilled?

My biggest question on the topic:

Why should animals have rights? What would be the point? They lack the abilities to comprehend, appreciate, or understand these rights.

Sorry but animals are not humans. Far from it. Take a chick hatchling and snap its neck in front of the mother hen and she won't care. She won't even know what's going on.

How to find food from free range animals. I personally think it is ok to eat animals, but I do not like the conditions under which they are being kept and slaughtered.

More ugly blunt truth: "Rights are bestowed on those who respect rights on by those who respect rights. It's a mutual pact. Since animals can't comprehend rights, there's no such thing as "animal rights." The lion does NOT respect the "rights" of the zebra. Why should I respect his rights? The cow doesn't respect the "rights" of the deer. She'll eat his forage. Why should I respect her "rights"?

"Animal rights" is a trick to take away MY right to own animals and use them as I think best for them and for me.

James Boxton, that was an incredibly insensitive comment.

ALL animals have the God-given right to be delicious.

That's what I would cover if I had an animal rights website.

Do vegetarians miss bacon cheeseburgers, a.k.a., the most awesome food ever?

The only animals I feel should be killed are ones that are delicious

Why are animals made out of meat? If we can get THAT question answered, everything would be right in the world.
