Why don't they invent a pill that can replace PROTEIN intake?!

Question: Why don't they invent a pill that can replace PROTEIN intake?
I don't like meat, never have never will. And I know there are all kinds of other foods that have protein but why is there no over-the-counter pill for protein intake?

It's a matter of volume. You need a lot of protein compared to other nutrients, and protein is, well, kind of big. There are a number of protein supplements out there if you are having trouble meeting your requirements through whole foods. I like shakes now and then, especially in the morning or if I have just been to the gym. I'm one of those people who just isn't a fan of eating first thing in the morning or right after working out. However, I notice that I do better if I get some calories into myself in both situations. I make smoothies in those situations. I personally am not a fan of whey or soy powders. All protein powders have distinct tastes, but I actually like the hemp protein powder. It has a strong odor and you can taste it, but it doesn't taste fake the way soy and whey powders can. I'm going to try Vega next.

That being said, Deer Hunter is right... it's way better to get nutrients from whole foods if you can. As an ovo-lacto vegetarian, I can have eggs or dairy for a protein punch. They can both be rather heavy, yes, so I typically rely on whole grains and legumes (plus, of course, produce). I also like seeds and nuts (and their butters) sometimes. If you consume dairy, having two servings of low-fat (or non-fat) dairy will get you about a quarter to a third of your RDA. Have a serving or two of whole grains and you will probably be up to half. Have a serving or two of legumes and toss a handful of nuts on a salad, and you're probably going to wind up with more than enough.

Best!

I'm guessing it's hard to pack alot of protein into a tiny little pill.

Here's something interesting though:

"There are many different type of protein pills availible. The 2 most common are proteins derived from whey and beef liver. You can find protein pills at your local nutrition center (GNC, etc.). Most of these pills are designed to be taken in conjunction with a high protein diet. Your body (i.e. your muscles) will take full advantage of the proteins you get from lean meats and dairy product, so use these pills as a supplement.

A word of warning: Many of these pills have high concentrations of B complex or B-12 vitamins. B-vitamin is a natural energy booster. So if you work out in the evening, you may want to avoid the supplements that have high B-vitamins. If you do work out in the evening, I would suggest taking one or two of the protein pills with dinner, 1-2 hours before you go lift."

Proteins are macro-nutrients (like carbohydrates and fats), which means that you need them in much greater quantities than you need the micro-nutrients (vitamins, minerals). Do you think you could squeeze that into pill size? There ARE pills around - in pharmacies and healthfood shops and on the vitamin shelves of supermarkets - which contain particular amino acids (the building blocks of proteins) - especially lysine, which is effective against cold sores.

Don't we have enough kinds of pills as it is?

Our bodies were made to live off the things nature has provided us. That's how we've continued to survive through the generations. Sure, some pills have offered us ways to prolong our lives and live healthier. But it seems we have a pill for everything, good and bad. And the pharmaceutical companies will keep developing them...no matter the costs...in money and lives.

This is one of the major problems with people today: they like to rely on pills and supplements instead of just eating food to get their needed nutrients. Stop putting crap in your body; it can very well lead to health problems in the future.
BTW, half the vitamins you just listed are not even real vitamins.

vegan :D

It's called food. Many foods are high in protein besides meat.

That would be wait of time, money, and energy. Only an ignoramus would take one id there was such a thing.

Evidently, common sense isn't too common.

Unfortunately there is more to being Vegetarian or Vegan than not eating meat. There is the old "you must eat a balanced diet" too. so eat a proper balance of non-carnivorous foods and be healthy. Eat those beans, yum-yum and toot toot!

Because it is not necessary. If you eat a natural diet w'o junk, you will get enough protein. (Nuts, beans, greens) In the US, people are obsessed w. eating too much protein.

Beans are natures protein pills.

If they have not made it yet, then it is likely that it is an impossibility.

Be glad they haven't invented artificial crap for it.

Suppliments of ANY kind are not as good as getting them from food sources. You body does not absorb them as well.

Why not just eat foods that contain what a body needs.

ensure it's a liquid but there you go.
