Question: I'm Thinking Of Going Vegan....?
im a 14 year old girl, 130 lbs and 5'8". i'm already a vegetarian and im thinking of stepping it up a notch and becoming a vegan. (for those of you who don't know, a vegan doesn't eat any animal products such as any meat or dairy including cheese, milk, eggs, yogurt, etc.)

by eating this way, will i lose any weight? and about how much weight will i lose in the first 2 weeks of eating vegan?

also, if there are any vegans reading this, please tell me if you lost any weight going vegan.

You shouldn't be trying to lose weight. You are already within your ideal weight range, if not a bit on the smaller side. You may have an eating disorder and should probably get help.



Erik Nostin, veganism is NOT 'pushing the boundaries of malnutriton', although I agree with everything else you said.

I lost a total of... wait for it... half a pound going vegan. Probably because I track my calories to ensure I get enough while training, so my calorie intake did not fluctuate.
If you don't really pay attention to what you eat, and as a vegetarian you eat cheese and lots of mac'n'cheese' and buttery things- and then you don't know how to cook yet, and eat big salads and fruits and whatnot- then yes, you'll lose weight. But going vegan only makes people lose weight because they inadvertently eat more calories, not b/c there's something super-magical about veganism.

Bottom line, count calories. And you do NOT need to lose weight, btw :) That would be dangerous- if you want to look better, work out to tone up, and up your calorie intake accordingly to maintain weight.

I did lose weight switching to a vegan diet. I eat 1 oz. of nuts, 8 oz. of beans, large salads, lots of veggies, a small serving or brown rice or sweet potato & 4 fruits daily. Ue a little olive oil on your salad. That said you are tall and are not overweight. I don't think you should lose weight, but if you are very small-boned, you could lose a max of 5 pounds. You should not lose more than 1 or 2 pounds a week, or you could compromise your health.

You look at being vegan because you look at yourself as a piece of meat. If you go vegan, do it because you want to on principle, not because you want to lose weight. Enough women in this nation have issues with what they see in the mirror without you pushing the bounds of malnutrition for the sake of looking good.



People incorrectly assume that "vegan" and "junk food" are mutually exclusive terms...they aren't. Corn chips are vegan! Only go vegan if you can eat healthy, meet all your caloric and nutrient needs, and be happy with whatever body you get.

why does going vegan constitute losing weight?
It doesn't.
Only if you eat fewer calories than you eat now.

For all I know you could be chomping peanut butter fried pancakes with deep fried banana chips every day.
Cheese is fattening but so is soycheese and ice cream.
Milk is the same, yoghurt.



In high school I weighed 215 pounds, and I am now 135 pounds.

But listen, I'm 5'8 1/2, about the same weight as you, and quite skinny. I really don't think you need to lose weight... You're healthy right now.

and by doing that im pretty sure you will lose weight considering the fact that there is usually less fat in water than milk and WAY less fat in vegies than eggs.
