Check out shredded setan - it's basically gluten. That's the elastic protein found primarily in wheat, and it has a very 'meaty' texture as it is prepared to eat. Not so good for folk who are sensitive to gluten, but if you're not, you'll probably love it.

See if any "healthfood" or alternative stores you can get to carry any of these or if you can mail order them.

There's no such thing as vegetarian ground beef. There are soybeans (or other veggies) mashed up, chemically altered, seasoned with all kinds of wierd stuff, packaged and sold as "ground beef" but don't expect it to taste like a Taco Bell burrito.

Grocery stores sell Gimme Lean, it's vegan. Make sure you grab the beef one, not the sausage one (also very good). Just add taco seasoning. There is also a soy taco 'meat.' Check the produce or vegetarian foods section.

yes it's called textured vegetable protein!
:)

or TVP
quorn also make one!
you can get it from any health food shop dry and you just soak it then cook it
it's a great subsitute for mince

some brands have premade ones too. im in aus so i know santitarium does

The 2 I sometimes eat are Boca or Morningstar farms. A better replacement is either mushrooms or lentils though.
