Ok, So people keep telling me i can eat jello and Pudding and jolly ranchers and stuff. I tell them over and over that i cant because it Is made from gelitin, An animal bypruduct.. I want to know if im right or not

Answers:

Getting down to the nitty-gritty, the vegetarian society does not turn their nose up to gelatin. Vegans, however, do. Yes, it is true that gelatin is made from ground up horse hooves, but that does not mean that a VEGETARIAN cannot eat it. There are many different types of vegetarians, therefore a lot of grey areas. As a vegatarian, the limitations you have are ones you set up for yourself. If you're not comfortable eating a food that has gelatin in it BECAUSE it comes from an animal, then don't eat it. But if you're only not eating it because you think you're not SUPPOSED to, then don't worry about it. Some vegetarians only exclude red meat. Some exclude red meat, chicken and sea critters. Most eat eggs & dairy in their diets. Personally, I have never known a single VEGETARIAN who excluded foods that listed "gelatin" as an ingredient.

I've been a vegetarian my whole life, up until 5 years ago when I became a full-fledged Vegan.

Thank you, Blah, for posting a sensible response. Vegetarians don't eat anything that causes an animal to die. An animal needs to die in order to procure gelatin. Ergo, it's not vegetarian. Same with chicken stock, fish stock, gravy, etc. Vegetarianism has nothing to do with simply not eating animal flesh.

Anyone can toss a fancy label around and call himself vegetarian, but it doesn't mean he is one. One poster gave an example of a "vegetarian" who eats everything but red meat. That's not a vegetarian; it's someone who doesn't eat red meat.

If you're a vegetarian you can eat jello and pudding. Vegetarians only omit the actual flesh from their diet. Gelatin comes from animals, but it's not dead flesh. Vegans, however, would not eat it.

vegan

Yes, you are right. People are just uneducated. Jello, marshmallows, and some candies have gelatin. Gelatin is basically boiled animal bones. Just be sure to always check the label. I've even found gelatin in a can of sunflower seeds!

you can get vegetarian jelly. and pudding, there is such a thing as vegetarian gelatin.

aparently ranchers are also vegetarian - made with palm and coconut oil- they are vegan.

vegetarian

vegetarians dont eat anything that caused an animal to be killed---so no a vegetarian does NOT eat gelatin.

Vegetarians do not eat gelatin. It's meat, plain and simple. Gelatin is made by boiling bones and connective tissue.

You are right, gelatin is made from a cow's hooves. Look for (or make) puddings made with cornstarch or Jello-like desserts made with agar agar (a seaweed).

some vegetarians do eat them. i try to avoid them. . .

From reading these comments, i think i'm gonna stop eating that stuff...
ewww!!!
