Do vegetarians age faster?!

Question: Do vegetarians age faster?
So, I've been a vegetarian for about 2 months now, and I don't intend to eat meat again. I was never a fan of it, and I never at more than once a week/once in two weeks, but now I've deciding to stop eating it altogether.

So, a lot of people around me, including my parents (who are terribly against my decision and won't stop lecturing me about how I'm going to fall into a coma or something) insist that vegetarians tend to age faster than your regular meat eater, because they don't consume the vitamins given by meat and all.

As much as I don't want to believe it, they have been bothering me about this for about a month now. So, honestly, is that true?

Not necessarily, although you can get the same vitamins and nutrients through other foods. Ive beber heard of someone aging by the foids they dont consume but i did see a segment on the news about how they did a study and vegans do not live as long as non vegans. :/

Vegetarian for three years

The people giving your your information are using stereotypes, and misinformation. I would assume that none of these people have any training in nutrition.

A vegetarian diet is just as healthy as a meat eating diet. There is nothing in meat that cannot be obtained from vegetarian sources. As long as your diet is balanced properly(which is just as easy as one including meat), there is no reason to believe that you will have any ill effects.

The American Dietetic Association, which is the world's largest organization of food and nutrition professionals has stated that a properly planned vegetarian and vegan diet is healthy for all stages of life.(1)

Everyone who is telling you these things, is an ignorant idiot. There are people who have been vegetarians or vegans their entire lives and are in perfect health.
And vegetarians do not age faster. All the older vegetarians and vegans I've ever seen (including those who are 50+) look at least 10 -15 years younger than they really are.

vegan :D

No it's not true, because you do consume the vitamins which are found in meats, all of them; provided you eat the right foods. But even if you don't, if you are lazy and eat lots of crap, you can take supplements if you really need to.

vegan biologist

I've been a vegetarian for 16 years and i'm progressing like an average 28 year old.
Not too much, being a vegetarian reduces your chances from parasites and stuff.

No, that's very stupid if people assume that. You wouldn't age because you cut meat out of your diet, because you can get nutrients from other sources.

That's just ridiculous. I'm in my 40s and still mistaken for someone 8 to 10 years younger, but then I looked younger than my age before I became vegan.

Absolute nonsense. There is not a single nutrient one can't get from a plant-based diet.
Need proof that vegetarians age better? Just look at Betty White.

LOL that's actually funny, because their dead wrong, it's the other way around. People who don't consume meat age SLOWER. It has been proven form many doctors, many athletes are vegetarian and they tend to live slightly longer. Meat eaters after they die will have over 5 pounds of unprocessed meat just sitting in them. If you look it up online, you will mostly likely get a number of answers, but regardless, people who don't consume are not going to die sooner because they have an iron deficiency, like most of them think, because it's not true at all. Meaters most of the time are ignorant and the only reason why they bash a vegetarain diet is because they don't know anyother way to live except eating meat.
