I've been a vegan all my life, and I ate a turkey burger yesterday and now I feel sick?!

Question: I've been a vegan all my life, and I ate a turkey burger yesterday and now I feel sick?
Okay, so I've been a vegan my entire life. That's how I was brought up. My parents never forced it on me, they were vegans themselves when they gave birth to me, so I just ate what they ate, but they never said "you can't eat meat" as I became older, I just chose not to eat it. Well, I went to a restaurant with my friends yesterday evening, and I was thinking of just ordering a salad. My friend ordered a turkey burger and fries, so I thought "well I've never tried meat, let me see what it tastes like", and I ordered what she ordered. I'm not gonna lie, the burger was delicious, but when I woke up this morning I felt really sick. I'm throwing up a lot and my stomach is hurting so bad.

Why did this happen? What should I do, so that when I eat meat or this doesn't happen?

I'm 19 and a girl, by the way.

You're just not used to it. If you want to keep eating meat, just have it in small bits, like a bite or two. You can work your way up to more.

Your body has enzymes that help digest food. Since you've never eaten meat, you don't have the enzymes necessary to digest it. If you really wanted to start eating meat, you'd have to take it slowly in order for your body to build up the enzymes. You might be able to take some probiotics to help build them up, I've just never researched it.

I've been a vegetarian for 7 years. I've researched it.

It was probably the dairy in the cheese. Since you haven't had milk since your mum stopped breastfeeding you there is no need for your body to produce an enzyme called lactase which is what is required to break down the sugar in milk (lactose). Your body has a very simple message for you: "please don't do this to me."

because your stomach is not used to digest the nutrients from meat, wait after a while and you will be fine

It's probly food poisoning

maybe your body isnt used to it because you've never eaten it before

lie

After a certain amount of time of not eating meat or dairy, in your case all your life, your stomach basically cant digest it, because it doesn't recognize it as food. i have been vegetarian for over a year (i do still eat fish though) and i accidentally ate something with meat in it. i got very nauseous and my stomach hurt for the rest of the day. if you do want to eat meat again, you have to start off with mild little bits of it, and work up to bigger things like turkey burgers, because right now your stomach doesn't know how to digest meat.

Your body isn't able to handle it. So it's rejecting the food. You've never ever eaten meat in your life and then all of the sudden eat an entire burger with meat on it. It was a shock to your digestive system.

Your body needs to recover from this first. And then if you want to eat meat. You'll need to gradually work your way onto it. I'd start with meat broths. And then small amounts of seafood like tuna etc. Don't go out and have a chicken sammy or steak of course! Or you'll end up sick like this again.
