No, the cows are pregnant or recently have given birth when they are lactating. Cows are not milk machines! That means there are a Lot more estrogen in the milk. All that estrogen can cause hormone imbalances. Plus, Any educated person knows that raw milk is a death wish. And drinking it is like digging your own grave. Raw milk from a COW Is infamous for containing pathogens.
Soy milk has just as much protein per glass.
It can be hard to find raw milk for sale because their are many regulations about selling it. Generally if you want to buy raw milk you need to get it through a co-op. You pay them a certain amount to buy a cow. They feed and house it but technically its your cow and so you are allowed to drink the milk. This goes for most places (that you can only drink the raw milk of "your" cow) although some areas are more easy going about buying raw milk.
If someone you know owns a cow or two it would be no big deal to buy milk from them. A neighbor or friend, i'm sure would be willing to give you some milk for a little cash because of the enormous amounts of milk some cows produce.
If you ask this under the agriculture section you will probably get better answers. The vegan section will only get you ridiculous answers about why cows are not milk machines.
John- it is entirely wrong that soy milk is just as healthy as cow's milk. The only advantage soy milk has over cow's milk is that it is cheaper to produce. It lacks many of the nutrients that milk contains.
Raw milk is not a death wish, it contains much more beneficial bacteria than pasteurized milk. Clearly you do not know much about milk.
Many states have laws against selling raw milk to consumers. Some people get around it by selling it in containers labeled "not for human consumption". You'll just have to look. I'd check Craig's List and the local classifieds. You might check out the HomesteadingToday website. I believe some of them sell raw milk but I don't know what state they're in. If you post your question there, some of them might be able to point you to a resource in IL. Good luck....
if you live in chicago you should just go to Wisconsin which is not too far from the windy city, they have better farms there
Simply drive out in the country, find a dairy farm, and ask them to sell you some.
