Is there a way to make something to substitute for flour?!

Question: Is there a way to make something to substitute for flour?
My friend has a gluten allergy and she can't have dairy, wheat or flour, but I wanted to make her some thing she could actually eat. I looked on baking sites but I don't have any of the other flours that it needs (i.e. rice flour, bean flour etc) Help!

Depending on what you're making, corn starch can substitute and you may have that. Otherwise, I would recommend going to a health food store. They usually have an "all-purpose" gluten free flour that is a blend of flours like the ones you mentioned above.

Google recipes for flourless chocolate cakes and use one of the recipes that looks like you have the ingredients on hand for. You can make a really good one with chocolate, vanilla, eggs and sugar.

Or if you want to use a mix, Betty Crocker is now making gluten free cake mixes as well as several other brands including Pamelas.

There are gluten-free versions of most everything. But you can't substitute something other-than-flour, for flour.

Then get what you need so that you will be assured that you are not going to make her sick.
