Feeling conflicted after watching a PETA video and I need some advice?!

Question: Feeling conflicted after watching a PETA video and I need some advice?
I saw a PETA video today and I feel horrible. It wasnt gory or all about slaughterhouses, but it showed how the animals are treated. I cant get it out of my head, I saw it an hour ago and I'm still trying not to cry. I really love animals, I have 2 dogs and I support my local SPCA, but I just dont know if I should become a vegetarian or not. I honestly dont have a problem eating meat, but I do if thats how ALL animals are treated before they die. Killing an animal quickly for sustenance is one thing, but beating it and cramming it into a cage is just freaking unnecessary. I just have no idea what to do. Are all food companies this abusive to their animals? Are there specific brands that I should avoid, or brands that are cruelty free? I dont know if I can handle being a vegetarian 100% of the time but I am NOT okay with animals being treated that way. Any advice please?

Well one thing you have to remember is that these are the most extreme cases Peta could find. In fact, I for one wouldn't be surprised if they actually hired people to do it just to make a point. (How else do you explain the fact that they always manage to get undercover tapes, never get caught, and yet never try to sue?)

The only real way to know that animals are Never treated cruelly is to grow crops yourself and either own your own cattle/chickens/pigs or go hunting.

If you're getting your plants from a farm/groceries, then there's a good chance animals are still dying.
Pesticides kill insects and rodents. Deer, birds, and other animals who try to graze on the crops are shot or poisoned.
Then more animals are killed when the tractor brings in the crops. My grandfather actually had a pet deer at one time whose mother was run over by a tractor.
I won't even get into roadkill when the trucks bring the crops to the factories, and then the produce to the groceries.

Another choice is finding a local farmer whose methods you can ask about. You'll have to stay away from those associated with the big names, and it will most likely be a little expensive, but it's wroth a try.

It's all true... the meat, milk & egg industry doesn't want you to know what happens to the animals before they end up on your plate...

If you want to eat meat, etc., look for the ORGANIC label... those animals were not raised on www.factoryfarming.com

Buy locally.
Knowing more about how your food is produced is just one of the many benefits of this.

Peta videos are all old and unreliable

Animals ARE killed and treated that way.
That's the thing- nobody really wants to admit it, but it happens.
Cows are not hugged to death, they are hacked to pieces while still alive sometimes.
Pigs are crushed to death, etc. Piglets are hacked in half while still alive.

Once you've seen those videos, you know the truth. You will realise 99% of meat, dairy, eggs, cheese is got this way.It is disgusting, barbaric and cruel.
It may be the thing that changes your life.

There are some cruelty free brands, but unless you overlook the place yourself, how do you know? They could just be putting one less cow in the cage.

I agree with the first answerer about PETA. Yes it is true that animals are abused in factory farms and slaughterhouses, but PETA lies all the time, and is hypocritical. They also edit those films to be as horrible as possible so that they can gain your sympathy and support for their crooked orginization.

If you are having such an issue with the treatment of animals look into humanely raised, grass fed beef. Organic small farms, local farmers that you can talk to, farmers markets, and farms you can visit and see just how the animals are treated daily. Or by Wagu/Kobe beef. The cows are massaged daily, rubbed down, fed beer even.

Unnecessary is eating meat when other alternatives are available that are much more eco-friendly & cause much less harm to sentient animals. Simple as to be blunt about it

No they are as many have said, the most extreme cases. But it most certainly does highlight the fact that meat came from an animal & when you witness these videos, you see how the animal yearns to survive & it most certainly makes you question if its necessary.
Don;t be vegetarian 100% of the time then, you will get abuse off the likes of these forums etc but ignore it, any less cruelty sits easy on a persons mind & is most certainly some start.

If i may i advise Earthlings, now this again has extreme examples but its a damn good documentary that will point out the illlogic in eating animals by todays standards & many other things. I've yet to find a reason that when debated can prove to me eating meat isn't immoral ( & thats just the ethical debates never mind the science of health & damage to the enviorment)

vegetarian
research if you want
I advise the pdocast ''vegetarian food for thought'' the author/presenter is fantastic

No, definitely not all meat producers abuse animals in that way, these are the most extreme examples in peta clips. But all animals must suffer at some stage in their lives to become meat. So the question is how much suffering are you willing to be responsible for?

It is also difficult to know how animals were treated unless you visit a farm yourself and buy direct from there. You can say goodbye to all your favourite burger and pizza restaurants and many other products which contain slaughterhouse by-products if you intend to only eat meat which fits the standard you wish animals to be kept at.

So from the position you are in right now, going vegan is the easiest option as you eliminate this cruelty from all but the products you buy. If you just cut out meat, you are significantly reducing your support for this cruelty although still supporting it through the consumption of dairy, eggs and slaughterhouse by-products. Or you can do your best to find somewhere that sells meats which are from dead animals which were treated better while they were still alive, all of these cases result in you supporting less cruelty but going vegan is the most logical option as that way you support the least cruelty.

peta like to promote an idea that isn't close to the reality, there are laws now that stop most cruel treatment of animals they find old file footage and portray it current and relevant just go buy a steak and enjoy the cow suffered for a second and tastes awesome vegetarian diets are harmful to your health we humans are omnivores meat and the proteins in it help your body grow

Don't go to PETA for any true facts. They are a bunch of lunatics.
