Vegetarian in a meat-loving home?!


Question: Vegetarian in a meat-loving home?
I want to be a vegetarian because of my beliefs about killing animals, and because it's healthier. My parents say it would be okay if I could find out how we can still eat together without them going veggie too.
How can we live and eat together when I'm a veggie and they're not? What are some different ways to go about this?

it'll be fine, i'm the only vegetarian in my family. the easiest thing to do if there's just a little meat in there meal is eat with them and pick the meat out. but if there main meal is something like steak, you'll just have to cook for yourself.there are TONS of easy vegetarian recipes, here are some things i like to make myself when my family's eating meat:
different kinds of salads (example for ingredients: lettuce, cabbage, shredded carrots, crushed up nuts, tomato, olives, shredded carrots ect.)
cheese sandwich (you can make a grilled cheese if you can or you can put butter on each slice of bread and a few slices of cheese in the middle)
veggie burger (i like to make mine with lettuce, cheese, and tomato, they're good)
boca burgers (they're fake burger patties, you can find them at almost any grocery store, and they taste great! you can also make a veggie burger with that)
fried rice with different veggies and (optionally) fried tofu
tofurkey sandwich (tofurkey is fake turkey, also from the grocery store)
peanut butter and jelly sandwich
peanut butter and jelly sandwich with bananas and strawberries in the middle
vegetarian tacos/burritos/wraps
fried eggs
hard boiled egg

and that's just to name a few!
if you're going to a restaurant it's really, really easy to find something vegetarian or substitute the meat for something
If meat is a side dish you can get some yogurt or some beans or an egg to get your protein and then eat the rest of the meal with your family.

i'm the only vegetarian in my family



Well, it's pretty simple, really. You all just need to plan for the meat course to be separate from the rest of the meal (i.e., steak or chicken breast as opposed to casserole). Additionally, you need to be willing to spend some time preparing the additional protein course that you'll substitute in for their meat course.

If it's taco night, your mom can serve all of the components and everyone will enjoy putting their own meal together. You skip the meat, and toss on some seasoned, baked tofu (that you prepped earlier in the week, perhaps).

There are also quite a few great vegetarian dishes that can be shared with the family, without feeling any loss. For example, macaroni & cheese is a staple during Lent, for Catholics who don't like fish. Chili is frequently made with beans and no meat, and nobody notices the difference. And who doesn't love a vegetarian lasagna? You can easily mix these in to the "standard" meat lovers' diet, and they'll love every bite!



they must eat foods outside of dead animals?
Eat those, and if they're normal intelligent people, they'll see the sense in eating three meals a week without meat, like vegetable lasagna, or CUrry and rice, or whatever.
If there's a pot roast, just make sure you've got a dish of roasted whatever.

Because it's HEALTHIER? Whoever told you that depriving your body of an entire food group makes you healthier ought to be smacked around.

To answer your question, it would be unfair to ruin everyone else's meal by expecting them to change their lifestyle to satisfy your dietary whims. Just eat everything but the meat I guess...
