What evidence is there that we need at least a 1,000 mg calcium a day?!

Question: What evidence is there that we need at least a 1,000 mg calcium a day?
The U.S. is obsessed with calcium. The FDA and medical associations always tell people this.

Can you show some links as evidence that a minimum of 1,000 mg calcium is best for bone health? A minimum of 1,000 mg Calcium a day to me sounds ridiculously too much.

No other country other some European countries have so much calcium in their diet. Most take not even half that amount. Yet, their risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures are substantially less than the U.S.'s

Answers:

Calcium is relatively weak in Cows milk, many green vegetables are the best sources of calcium & in general most vitamins (for eg Vitamin C is higher in spinach than in oranges, similarly kiwis & lemons are higher than oranges).

As for the RDAs they are based on science that is to rid the body of fatal old diseases (scurvy etc you know yerself), it is in no way a guide to optimum health. For example vitamin C doses at 300X the RDA amounts (that vary by country btw) in patients with colds/flus etc show a much quicker bounce-back to full health. Similarly a study was done with cancer, those given much higher doses of vitamin C apparently lived 4X longer.
So basically don't trust the RDAs you probably need more than they are saying, and in the case of protein less of what they are saying.

Lifestyle can affect calcium intake, smoking and high amounts of certain fats can inhibit its digestion, also low intakes of certain nutrients (i'm not a nutritionist so forgive my vague descriptions, you can do research) that help synergise with calcium can cause a lack of absorption

The body is ridiculously complex, proteomics alone warrants an entire life of studying

The development of Osteoporosis is very much based on activities of the person.

It is not a factor to be entirely focused on when looking for benefits of calcium per-day requirements set by the FDA of America but it is a large one.

Calcium helps makes up bone structure, and 1000mg will help your body grow, maintain and heal bone.
Women apparently need it more.

I know Osteoporosis can be halted or avoided by certain contact sports but I forget the exact name for the type, but I know that the bone must be exposed to shock or force so that it may compact and strengthen, therefore helping stave off Osteoporosis.

The countries with the highest levels of milk consumption also have the highest rates of osteoporosis. The reason 1,000 mg is recommended is because too much animal protein causes your body to lose calcium.
