Do you think you could stay vegetarian/vegan without agriculture?!
Answers:
I would like to think so, but growing up with a family with a large garden, I know it's not that easy. I know I can grow plants, but even my family's garden wasn't enough to completely feed us. My family got some produce from outside our garden (not talking about meat, but of grains and nuts and all the things those things make. Stores without any plant produce would greatly throw out of balance even the heaviest meat-eaters!)
Anyway, yes, I would try to grow all my own produce and stay vegan - or at least vegetarian. I would have to move somewhere I could have a bigger garden. I believe I would be okay on vegetables, although winter would be difficult even with canning and freezing. I would have to live on limited "sweet" fruits for awhile (berry plants take a few years to mature and fruit trees take even longer!)
My biggest struggle would be lack of grains (carbs and fiber) and nuts/seeds (IE fats). For grains, I would probably try to grow something, corn if nothing else. Eating meat or dairy would in no way help as a "replacement" to grains -- the nutrients are so different. For fats, there's a good chance I would end up eating eggs, milk, and cheese. Nuts grow on trees as does avocados and coconuts and most sources of fat, so that would be difficult to have, plus would take awhile to grow. Ideally, I would get my own chickens and goats, so I could raise them.
I would have to be truly starving to eat meat. Starving meaning I have no food at all and no land and no seeds to grow, etc. I know starvation brings a mode of survival, so even though meat doesn't appeal to me now... to survive could be different.
You do realize that the only reason we can mass produce meat, dairy and eggs is due to the agricultural system, right? So how would you fare if you have to grow your own veggies and your own meat? :)
If we live in a world without agriculture, it means society has officially collapsed. The only reason we have society as we know it is because of the agricultural revolution. This would mean I own my own land because a formal society doesn't exist and I would be much more capable of growing food on my land than outside an apartment complex, small city home or typical suburban plot of land. In other words, if no one else grew my food it would actually be that much easier for me to grow my own.
no, with my current skill set and location I would starve, but i would also starve as a meat head so it proves nothing.
Humans have specialised roles just like most social animal species. Many of these specialisations only serve to continue society a it exists right now, so they are not really needed. But this specialisation is what has allowed technology to develop- the fact that some people are skilled and trained in producing crops means that others can devote their time and energy into becoming skilled in other areas. The only thing that makes s different to other species is our ability to systematically solve problems and the partitioning of employment roles in society is part of that.

I've probably got enough room in the garden to grow all my own food, but the only problem would be finding the time. It's usually dark by the time I get home from work, and I'm not a morning person, so that just leaves weekends, effectively. Not easy. I'd definitely try though.
Yup.
I'd grow a massive garden before eating animal products.

I think that eating food is important. You should choose nutritious foods and products, vegetables or vegetarian is a good choice. Not to follow in later issues.
how about not being a vegetarian
