why are people vegetarian?!
Answers:
I'm sure that most vegetarians would say " I'm like this because I love animals " .
I would hardly disagree with that phrase because that's not love, it's just psychological attitude against eating meat. So, when this type of vegetarians see meat they imagine dead cows or crying chickens .
However there are many other people who became vegetarian just to lose weight. I guess it's OK only then when you are REALLY over-weight and this is the only way.
Don't forget religion provisions. Such a big system as religion still can make (some) people vegetarian.
creatures like people aren't born to eat grass. However they also aren't born to eat hundred kilos of meat per day.
Thanks, Ria, but I don't know any other vegetarians, nor am I part of any group the pushes veg*nism like PETA or religion, so being influenced is out.
As for being obessessed with animals, well, maybe a little over my pet dogs, but in general, I am not opposed to the practice of eating meat. I do not support all of the ways we obtain meat and meat products, but I am not opposed to humane slaughter and things like hunting (assuming the kill is used and not wasted).
*My* biggest reason is I simply feel much better on a vegetarian diet. I did not start out intending to become vegetarian, I actually started out simply trying to reduce the amount of meat I ate and increase my consumption of plant based food, but the differences in how I felt after eating meat were hard to ignore.
@darko - I don't eat grass either.
I am vegan for a number of reasons.
The meat and dairy industries have huge and very bad effects on the environment. From using over half the fresh water in the USA to still today clear cutting thousands of acres of rain forest a year in tropical countries to the thousands of tons of methane and CO2 released into the atmosphere every year (increasing global warming) to polluting the ground water across the world where there are large scale factory farms and it goes on and on.
Yes, living my life still has an impact on the Earth, but as a vegan the past 20 years it is a lot less than if I still consumed animal products to eat and wear and otherwise use.
Most animals raised to be food are really not healthy animals; many are heavily dosed with medications, anti-biotics and hormones. It is not healthy to eat such creatures.
Most food animals live stressful and crummy lives. I choose not to support that. Even if you yourself do not abuse animals, if you eat meat, dairy, eggs etc. you support their abuse and make it possible.
The environment, my own health, the ethical questions - those are the main reasons I am vegan. To all the non-veg* people who make snarky comments, what good did YOU do for the world today?
Well, I've been a vegetarian since I was in fourth grade.(I'm currently in 7th) It was my choice, but my parents fully support it. I personally decided to become a vegetarian to prove to myself that I could do it. I guess I began to like it, and I'm very faithful to my decision. It's different for everyone, but that's my reason.
To the people saying vegetarians/vegans don't eat me because it's unhealthy, you're wrong. Some do, but most, like me refuse to eat it because we support animal rights. Do you even know what they do to those animals? Doubt it. Look it up. It's horrible. Animals can't defend themselves, they can't cry for help, they can't do anything but take it and they shouldn't have to. I literally break down in tears if I even see an aspca or humane society commercial. If you're gonna eat meat or anything that comes from animals, you should atleast know what that animal had to go through first. It's just really f**ked up. So no, not all vegetarians/vegans refuse to eat meat just because it's unhealthy.
some simply dont like meat, some do it because they feel animals are mistreated when they are used for food. some believe it gives them a healthier lifestyle, everyone does it for their own reasons, and all of them are different. its just one of those personal decisions that each person has to make for themselves because no one can make them feel a different way about their lifestyle and what they eat....same with veganism, its all an individual choice.
i know everything that my "meat" goes through, we raise and butcher out own beef, pork and chickens, we also have chickens for eggs. everything we butcher is done humanely, and its hormone and chemical free, i love knowing what is in my food before i eat it.
I have been home educated all my life 14 years, Personally I don't believe animals should be killed just to be put on the shop shelf animals have a life as well as humans and what right does a human have to take away a animals life----None, But this is my opinion and is a very controversial subject.
I'm a vegan because it's better for my health to ditch animal products. I feel much better, hold onto muscle mass longer and have more energy. I also enjoy the fact that I cut my food budget by more than half when I went vegan. That's awesome.
Oh, and the animals are fine, too.
EDIT: Thumbs down? I guess no one likes to hear personal accounts.
I always hated meat, the smell and the consistency. It absolutely disgusts me and i do not think it is natural to eat it.

oh yeh plus meat gives you cholesterol, colon cancer and constipation, bad breath, unpleasant odor and is greasy.
People choose a plant based diet for four main reasons: health, the environment, religion, and ethics.
Because there is no good reason to not be a vegetarian.
Some people do it for health reasons; others do it because they don't like the ways animals are treated poorly.
Watch the documentary "Earthlings" and find out.
Some feel bad about killing animals for meat, some want a 'healthier' diet, some want to lose weight.
well,i learned that the herbivores have high pain endurance.i also think it's cool to be a veg for sometime too :)
Cause they're *******
Some are influenced by others, some are actually obsessed with animals. in my opinion, God made animals for us to eat them.
