What is your reasoning for being vegetarian/vegan?!

Question: What is your reasoning for being vegetarian/vegan?
I'm not being judgmental, but I'm genuinely curious. What are your reasons?

I was training insanely to acquire a Black Belt in Karate - running more than 20 miles a week - in addition to Karate classes and could not lose weight. I needed to be in perfect shape to get a Black Belt. Removed red meat from my diet with almost immediate results. Next came chicken and then I got my Black Belt.

Twenty five years later I don’t miss meat.

My friends have had multiple heart attacks, take blood pressure and cholesterol lowering medication. I’m in great health. Don’t do Karate anymore (to many injuries) but in a gym several times a week.

I’m not an animal rights activist, and don’t care what you eat.

I eat what keeps me healthy.

Because I love animals and I'm strongly against animal cruelty. I bust out in tears if I even see a commercial about the aspca and the humane society. It affects me really deeply when I hear about animal abuse and cruelty and I would give anything to be able to end it for good. I guess one reason I feel so strongly about is because growing up I had tons of cats and they were like my bestfriends. I didn't have much friends growing up and whenever I needed to cry my cat would love up on me and make me feel better. And I can't imagine why anybody would wanna hurt and destroy something so innocent. Everybody takes abortion seriously, child abuse seriously, and even though those are very serious topics that I'm also against I feel people look at animal abuse like it's not as important but it is. the difference between an animal being attacked and a human is an animal can't fight back or defend themselves or cry out for help. They are forced to take it and they shouldn't. Look up what happens to animals before they come meat. They're tortured. Would you want your baby taken from you right when it's born? No. Why? Because you love your baby, and animals love their babies too. Would you want to be put into a very small cage that's incredibly painful and uncomfortable? No, and neither do animals. I know being a vegan isn't gonna save all animals from being slaughtered, but knowing that it saves even a few makes me feel good. And in my opinion if you eat meat, then you should be forced to look at what happens to animals first every time you cook chicken or steak. If you can handle it, you're obviously really messed up. And if you can't, then you shouldn't be eating meat.

Deer hunter wants to put us all in a "one size fits all" description. He would be upset if I called all meat eaters murderous now wouldn't he?

I love the taste meat and have perfected a marinade that is absolutely out of this world. I can smoke a prime rib for Christmas dinner and a Turkey for Thanksgiving. I can BBQ anything. However, I am a vegetarian.

For me it is a health issue. I have problems digesting meat and also wheat products. Bread kills me. If I eat it I will end up in the hospital with diverticulitis which is very painful. I have slipped twice and have had acute Diverticulitis twice!

As frustrating as this is, I am a vegetarian because it makes me feel so much better. I eat all day long. I steam veggies like green beans and carrots in the mid morning and snack on them all day. I do get the 4-5 servings recommended by the FDA and even more. I also get my 4-5 servings a fruit that is recommended- again, because when you are not eating meat or breads you are hungry and much all day on good food. I am 55 now and when I tell people I am a vegetarian, without fail they will say "you can tell. Your skin is young and you look really youthful and fit."

So I am a vegetarian for health reasons and it is very hard because I do love a good steak and a good sour dough bread, warm with butter! UGH but I cannot have it no not even once!

I'm a vegetarian, I ate meat up until I was around 8 but when I found out where meat came from I stopped eating it straight away. I love animals so much & I hated the thought of animals getting killed just to be used for a burger or a christmas dinner so thats what put me off & I'd never go back to eating it, it makes me feel sick!

I wanted to try it, just to see what it was like. And I just never felt like eating meat again. Many people are biased assholes who think that we are a bunch of tree hugging hippies, but we aren't. Meat isn't unhealthy for you, vegetarians just choose not to eat it, and people tend to take it the wrong way.

Vegetarian for several years

well i'm pescatarian, and it has to do with multiple reasons. first off, i was born into it, so i'm used to have never eaten meat other than fish, so just the thought of me eating meat is repulsive. i just couldn't do it because i never have before. also, i really love animals, and i don;t agree with the way butcher farms or whatever you call it, kill the animals. it's in humane. and i must also add, that i realize that it's the life cycle so i would be perfectly fine with hunting an animal and eating it if i needed the food. there's nothing wrong with that. the animal wasn;t born inot it and it had a chance of getting away. we have to eat, it's stupid to think we aren't going to eat animals, but also i feel like a gun is an unfair advantage. i would rather, if i had to, hunt the animal with a spear, or a rock. although i couldn;t get myslef to do such a thing unless i really needed the grub.

my brain.

Because nobody has the right to eat or wear another living being. I don't believe that humans have any right to use and abuse animals just because they can i.e. making animals perform, putting hem in aquariums and zoos. performing experiments on them, etc. Basically, animals are not property.

vegan :D

NEver really thought it was right to eat flesh, seeing as I am flesh- and I know I'm a human, and I did a BA in biology- humans have the long twisting intestine of a plant eater, and they also have flat teeth.

Meat never really tasted so amazing I need to gorge it. Sure, it was OK, but I'd rather have marmite on toast anyday.

i think its healthier when you do it correctly, and im kind of a health nut
when ever i see meat, i almost cant help but think about how it used to be alive and it honestly makes me kinda sick
my family didnt eat a whole lot of the fancy 'good' meat cuz my mom doesnt like red meat, so its not like i know a whole lot about what i am supposedly missing out on

Meats kinda gross to me:/ the texture is kinda wierd,, it's healthier to be a vegetarian, ithink, it's a dead animal, tht dsnt really bother me though....

I don't think animals should have their entire lives taken from them for 5 minutes of our pleasure and I don't want to contribute to the horrors of factory farmng.

The funny thing is much of their reasoning comes from false information.

Because its pretty nasty eating meat.. we have meat.. EW! and because you get in shape!

Some people just don't want to kill animals.
