Answers:

No offence but your dad is dumb. Vegans are usually way more healthier than meat eaters and have a longer life expectancy. You can get protein from alot more things than just meat. Fruit, vegetables, tofu, there's alot of things. It is a little more expensive that's why I don't tell my mom to buy alot of stuff in one day. I'm 13 btw. Go to vegweb.com for recipes. They're not all that expensive, but the ones with 32473854856487 ingredients usually are. But to be honest, I think going vegan is actually cheaper than buying meat and dairy and other products that have things in it that come from animals all the time. Tell your dad that this is what you want to do, and if he doesn't like it, then you won't eat. My parents are never really supportive of me, but if they don't buy vegan foods I just don't eat because I refuse to eat anything that came from an innocent animal. They usually give in. Make a list of why you wanna become vegan, and tell your parents. Tell them that they don't have to change but you are because this is what you wanna do.

If he thinks it's too expensive to buy fresh fruits and vegies, get him to take you to the local farmer's market or vegie market when it's near closing time and they sell the stuff cheap. As for your health there is no risk of illness from a vegan diet provided you eat enough fresh fruits and vegies and ensure you are getting the nutrients which are not naturally present in these (Vitamin B12 and DHA omega 3) from foods which are fortified with these or by taking supplements. You can get B12 and possible DHA as well from nori, which is the seaweed they use to make sushi rolls but you need to eat a fair bit of it (I think at least 3 rolls per day). Most soy milks are fortified with B12 as are many cereals and other products.

As for convincing your dad, show him this: "It is the position of the American Dietetic Association and Dietitians of Canada that appropriately planned vegetarian diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases." http://www.adajournal.org/article/PIIS00…

BUT if you are really young the best option may just be to compromise and come up with an animal product you are most ok with eating say once or twice a week if that will get him off your back. It doesn't have to be steak, maybe yoghurt or cheese or eggs etc if you can manage it. You will still be doing more for the animals and the environment than all those meat heads who don't care about these things. I would recommend you try and convince him to let you go vegan, and if he stands firm then offer this idea as a compromise.

Good luck :)

Vegan is cheaper.... soooooo much cheaper. Price a bag of carrots, or green beans, or a bunch of broccoli. You can eat so much more and less expensive when eating veggies and fruits.

Health--- it is a scientific fact that human's, seriously... do not have the physical make up to be meat eaters.

ALL meat eaters- dogs, cats, lions, tigers and such have very large "incisor" teeth. You know the kind dracula has? These teeth are to help these animals to kill and tear apart meat. However, the animals that are mainly grain eaters like cows, lambs, horses, zebras, giraffes, and US HUMANS have those pointy teeth but they are equal in length to all of the other teeth which SCIENCE says goes hand in hand with grain eaters. In addition, it has been proven that our intestines do not have the necessary enzymes to digest meat and this is why 85% of our population has either a weight problem from the fat of meat, or a heart problem from the fat in meat, or a digestion problem.... also from the fat and complex proteins!

So tell your dad to buy you a bunch of banana's, some apples, dried fruit and juice with some carrots and green beans and broccoli and sweet potato and squashes... and since you are young you might want to consider being a LACTO Vegetarian so you can eat some eggs and milk and yogurt and such with whole grain cereal such as any cereal with a heart on the package showing whole grain...

Your dad needs to look on the internet and he will see that buying meat for one meal for the family could buy a couple days of meals as a vegetarian! So much cheaper!

Being a vegan is quite cheap if you don't get a lot of processed foods. You can eat pastas, rice and beans, tofu, soy milk, and tons of other things. A vegan diet is healthier than any other diet as long as you do it right. So since you have never gone vegan before, just look up a few sites about it, and research it a bit. You just need to make sure you eat a good amount of fruits and veggies as well to make sure that you get enough vitamins. You could also take a vitamin supplement, but that doesn't work as well as getting it from foods. I wish you the best of luck! Your dad should also be supportive... so he's kind of being a jerk. :(

Here are some sites about eating vegan on a budget:
http://veganonabudget.wordpress.com/
http://www.bukisa.com/how-to/eat-vegan-o…
http://eatdrinkbetter.com/2011/02/02/eat…
Just put "how to eat vegan cheap." Though that doesn't make sense, but better sites come up from that than from just writing "how to eat cheap on a vegan diet."

get a job and pay for food, cut out the middle man.

my bad your not 14 yet... uh print out cheap recipes and show evidence that it can be as cheap or cheaper than your current diet, and make sure you have things with protein like beans, lentils, tofu, soy milk, etc. and ull need to supplement b12
