If an Orange is slightly green, is it safe to eat?!

Question: If an Orange is slightly green, is it safe to eat?
I was wondering because there's an elderly woman that lives down the street from me and she's a generous woman who gives out things she don't want (specifically food). Earlier this week, she gave me a bag of Oranges and I noticed when I got home that a few of the Oranges were slightly green. I haven't ate those yet. Are these Oranges safe to eat? Also, does anyone know the reason for an Orange being slightly green colored but overall orange?

Answers:

yes . . it's possible they're not quite ripe . . but oranges don't have to be totally orange to be ripe.
If it's sour . . then don't bother . . but my guess you'll be pleasantly surprised. Oranges oddly enough can sit on a tree for months in a ripe condition. . .you can have next seasons crop starting and last season't growth still on branches.

The skin starts off green and as it ripens . . it's mature color comes out . . Lemons start out green, so do grapefruit, tangerines and the rest

Yes, its just the colour hasn't changed. it may be very slightly underripe but still OK to eat as long as you don't mind it slightly sharper than usual.

Yes, but the peals are best to eat when deep fried in lard.

Yes, they are. They weren't sprayed with any king of dye, so you're seeing them the way they should look.

yes
