What can i put tofu in?!


Question: What can i put tofu in?
So I have recently become a lacto-vegeterian for about two weeks now. Unfortunately, I'm the only on in the house who is a vegeterian. Right now, they're off buying steak -_- they tell me I should eat at least one piece because I'm not making a difference. One person who stops eating meat won't change the fact that they still kill animals (that's what he said to me). I said no. They say I have to eat food, with protein like tofu, if not I have to eat meat. I told them they can't force me to eat meat. So I'm wondering what foods I can put tofu in? So it'll taste good, and so I won't have to make a seperate meal something small. For example, can. I fry tofu? Or can I put lemon on it and eat it? I know for soups. But we don't make soups. The only soupd they make here is chicken soup. So I'm not putting tofu in that. Any ideas??

Becoming vegetarian is a personal choice and if you keep it that way then no one can come up with reasons you should eat meat. Just say you get an upset stomach after you eat it and have trouble pooping or something. No one can argue that one!

Tofu takes on the flavor of anything you put it in. Small chunks fried a bit in butter and ad eggs. Eat with some shredded potato's.

You can get protein from:

Protein powder! 4 tbls a day will give you 40 grams of protein. Put 2 tbls in a fruit smoothie:

1/2 cup of frozen fruit
1 cup of juice
2 tbls protein powder
1/2 cup of yogurt- high in probiotics

Blend it up! Drink it!

Protein is found in eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt (yogurt is good with some granola and blueberries!)

PROTEIN IN LEGUMES: Garbanzo beans, Kidney beans, Lentils, Lima beans, Navy beans, Soybeans, Split peas

PROTEIN IN GRAINS: Barley, Brown rice, Buckwheat, Millet, Oatmeal, Quinoa, Rye, Wheat germ, Wheat, hard red, Wild rice

VEGETABLE PROTEIN: Artichokes, Beets, Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Cucumbers, Eggplant, Green peas, Green pepper, Kale, Lettuce, Mushrooms, Mustard green, Onions, Potatoes, Spinach, Tomatoes, Turnip greens, Watercress, Yams, Zucchini

PROTEIN IN FRUITS: Apple, Banana, Cantaloupe, Grape, Grapefruit, Honeydew melon, Orange, Papaya, Peach, Pear, Pineapple, Strawberry, Tangerine, Watermelon

PROTEIN IN NUTS AND SEEDS: Almonds, Cashews, Filberts, Hemp Seeds, Peanuts, Pumpkin seeds, Sesame seeds, Sunflower seeds, Walnuts

You can fry it lightly in vegetable oil. You need to cut it slices before that. You can also dip it in mixed eggs and then fry, if you eat eggs. I prefer it fried without eggs. And then eat with dipping in soy sauce. It's possible to eat it with rice too. I'd mix a non-fried soft tofu with soy sauce and rice. It tastes good to me.



I like to eat tofu with: Pinto/Black/or Garbanzo beans with hot sauce, brown rice with teriyaki sauce, vegetable broth, or stir fried with vegetables. Here's a great tofu recipe if you like Chinese food:)

You can put it in lots of stuff, but, IMO, it's not ever going to taste good. Fake soy meats, tofu, soy milk....It's all pretty nasty tasting to me.

If you're going to become the only vegetarian on the place, you need to learn to cook for yourself.



Soup ,I had it at a japanese Restaurant in Nashville,TN called Sapporo and it was good.

add tofu to:
-stir fry sauce with veggies
-pasta sauce

eggs, cottage cheese, beans, quinoa - all have protein too



you can fry it in oil, bake in the oven, eat it straight from the pack.

The nasty white flabby soft stuff you get from the supermarket is usually the most horrible type.It doesn't taste of anything. I hate when people eat this and don't know what real fresh good tofu tastes like. If you have a Thai supermarket nearby, or even a chinese one, go get some BAKED tofu- it's marinaded and pressed down when it's mad,e so it ends up very dense, chewy, thick and solid, it's so good. I eat it straight out of the pack and it's delicious- nutty, fresh tasting, lovely.

But whatever tofu you get- drain it. Chop it up and add soysauce, and oil and fry in a pan. Then add sweetcorn, peanuts, bean sprouts and some fresh cooked noodles.

Or batter it, in seasoned flour and egg, then deep fry and eat like nuggets.
I only get baked or porper fresh tofu- it is warm, still steaming hot sometimes from the store, fresh and really tasty, it breaks apart like bread. You can slice it, put in soups, stews, casseroles.
A lovely way of cooking it, is simmering it in pan with curry sauce, slice it first and simmer with the sauce, flipping the slices so they become yellow and rich. then eat with curried veg and rice.

You can do a marinade of peanut butter, soysauce and chil- put the tofu chunks in the marniade then bake in the oven and serve with the marinade as a sauce.

Why can't you make your own soup?



You can eat tofu anyway you way, it's an extremely versatile food. It comes in different textures, and has a very subtle taste so you can add whatever sauces and spices you wish. :)
You can use silken tofu in cookies and smoothies. I cut tofu in chunks and stir-fry it with some other vegetables and eat it with rice. You can get firm tofu and grill it, you can also make french toast with tofu. Once I've made a vegan pizza from scratch. I sliced firm tofu and added mushrooms and soy cheese. :)

There are so many sources of protein... nuts, legumes, grains, seeds, soy products....
Its especially good if you combine any of nuts, legumes, grains and seeds....

You can get variations of soft to firm tofu. You can eat either hot or cold.

For cold tofu, if you like Japanese flavours try some light soysauce with thin slices of spring onion and minced ginger.... Its really nice and refreshing in summer time. You could try that with lemon too, instead of soysauce.

For hot,
Silky tofu is awesome in miso soup, you might be able to buy satchels of miso paste at the supermarket? or an asian grocer, all you have to do is mix it in, just a small teaspoon for one cup of boiling water and you can add whatever you want to it, mix it up, add spring onions, or cooked vegetables if your family has prepared some. just mix it up :)

Firm tofu, you can marinate in whatever flavour you like (you don't have to if you don't want to), could be soy or kecapmanis or something spicier, just put it in a bowl and in the fridge, overnight or for a few minutes and you can definately fry it. With other vegies or on its own, it doesn't take that long, it doesn't need to 'cook', just heat up and get a little golden.

You're not just one person who doesn't eat meat, theres alot of people who don't eat meat, and I'm sure if we all decided one day to start eating meat again, they would need to kill a whole lot more animals to keep up. ; )
