Am I in good shape for my age???!

Question: Am I in good shape for my age???
Am I healthy?

7:20 For breakfast I have a fiber one toaster pastry (380 cals.) (it's the only treat of my day)
11:30: lunch: an organic granola bar, and either a half cup of fresh pineapple or apple. water. (280cals)
2:30- a 90 calorie fiber one bar
5:30: dinner. Usually a salad wrap on this spinach shell, and a glass of milk and some fruit. (600 cals)
I get about 8.5 hours a sleep.
I'm a 15 year old female btw. :)

I have a 2 hour track practice 6 days a week, and i have a 1 hour gymnastics class 3 days a week.

**not trying to lose weight, just maintain**

been vegan 1 year, but now have been vegetarian for 4 years.

I take a vitamin as well.

Yeah, I would say you're in very good shape for your age :)

sounds good, but how do you feel? that's what's more important. also for some people, certain foods may not be as good. but so long as you feel healthy, you are doing the right thing. if you start to feel weak or tired often, that is an indication you are not eating enough.

That's 1350 calories in a day. That is nowhere near enough food or calories especially if you're so active. And at 5'4", being 97 pounds is extremely underweight. You need to start eating normally before your bad eating habits catch up with you.

I don't think you are eating enough, your diet seems especially deficient in protein. For the amount of exercise you are getting you should be eating closer to 2000 calories a day. Add more nuts, tofu, and legumes to your diet.

Sounds fine but if your very active then i would eat more bread, pasta, cereal and rice.

There's no way for anyone who doesn't know you to answer this correctly. Why? Because we don't know your structure, weight, size, amount of bone, build, or amount of muscle. Each person is an individual in the way they metabolize the food they eat too. You could be a 6'2" 190-lb woman and this wouldn't suffice for you. You could be a 100-lb man and it wouldn't either.

Breakfast: Should be your BIGGEST meal of the day. Why? Because all the calories you eat at brekkie are used throughout the day and are your fuel. A poptart is a crap food. It has little to no nutrients in it and once your body is done burning it, it will go to your muscle stores because it has nothing else.

Lunch: Sounds good for a snack, but this is lunch. Lunch could consist of a salad with nuts and a glass of almond milk or something.

Dinner: Sounds yummy as well, but this could almost be switched with your breakfast, except the breakfast Poptart be changed into something else. Because at dinner, you need very little calories before you go to sleep. That way, you'll wake up with a good appetite for your healthy and big breakfast!

I hope that helps. I personally feel that you're eating too little nutrients. I really suggest adding more variety in vegetables and nuts because vegans/vegetarians can get malnutrition if they don't.

Also the fact that you're very active--you REALLY need to eat more. If you start gaining weight then you can back off on the calories a bit.

where is the 4-5 servings of vegetables and the 4-5 servings of fruit?

Where is your protein?

You might think you feel great and look great but your body could be feeding on itself which often doesn't show itself until you get to be middle age and then you end up with MS, AutoImmune, Digestive issues, Heart maladies, and well... a long list of ailments.

You can add steamed or fresh green beans, some broccoli, and carrots into your day. I would also add a banana, apple, cherries, blueberries.

It more important to look at your over all health benefit of the food than the amount. I eat literally all day long. I seldom eat a regular meal but I do what some refer to as grazing. If I am hungry, I will grab a handful of sugar snap peas or fresh string beans. I also love dried cherries and blueberries which are very high in antioxidants.

I recommend that you change your fiber one bar for a smoothie with a liquid vitamin and a half scoop of fiber.

I bought those Magi Bullet single smoothie makers. I add 1/4 cup of frozen pineapple pieces, a bit of frozen mango pieces and a 1/2 of a organic banana. I then pour about half way up plain, high in probiotic yogurt. 1/2 scoop of Beyond Organic Raw Fiber, 1 capfull of Natural Vitality Organic Life liquid vitamin and mineral complex. One packet of orange flavored Emergen C pak, and 2 tblspoons of organic protein powder. Top off with some water and blend well. Tastes just like a Jamba juice but has all your vitamins, minerals, and protein for the morning!

Although the FDA has a percentage value, remember that the FDA gives the absolute minimum to prevent a person from having obvious lack of nutrition symptoms. People died because of scurvy in the old days but then they discovered oranges= vitamin C stopped the issue. Although the FDA says take 90mg a day- that's just to prevent symptoms. However, nutritionists say take at least 4000 mg a day! It prevents colds, flu, digestive problems, it's good for your skin and hair, etc, etc! That's just one example.

So get with it girl... over eating isn't your problem but under nutrition is.
