Go to your local grocer and write down the names of some of the organic companies that provide milk and eggs. Call or email them and ask them if the allow visitors on site. Tell them you are a conscientious consumer and you want to see where they are and how they farm. If they have an open door policy, you should be safe.
For instance, Full Circle Organic products have an open door policy, they have internships, they have farmers markets on their farm in Washington. All of their eggs come from free range chickens that are truly allowed to wonder the grassland and their cows too are free to roam and are not over populated. So I have no problem getting milk from their cows, eating their eggs, and also their yogurt.
There are always bad people out there so just find the good one and support them. I think you are at an age where milk is important unless you are an above average 15 year old and can figure out what other sources of vitamin d, calcium, protein, etc are available- I mean readily available every day. Most illnesses because of lack of nutrition don't show up until you get much older so even if you feel fine now, you can end up with digestive problems, m.s., autoimmune, etc just because you didn't pay attention when you were young.
Good luck to you! And remember that not all organic farmers are mean to their cows and chickens!
I became vegan when I was 15 and I'm healthy, lol.
If you feel like you're ready, then go for it. Just make sure you do a lot of research, eat a lot of fats, natural sugars, and amino acids.
Humans need fats in their bodies to insulate the body, provide an energy store, build cell membranes, help with hormones, maintain major systems in our body, waterproof the skin, etc. Eat lots of foods like avocados, olive oil, and coconut to get natural fats.
We need natural sugars solely to function properly. Blood sugar, known more precisely as glucose, energizes the brain, which in turn controls almost every aspect of human activity such as digestion and respiration. Unlike muscles that can derive energy from the fat you consume, the brain requires glucose to power its operations. Any food that grows on a plant has natural sugar in it. A perfect example is fruit. Even sour fruits, like citrus or kiwis, have a sweet undertone.
Proteins are made up of long chains of building blocks called amino acids. The sequence of the amino acid is characteristic to a particular protein and this determines its function. Besides building cells and repairing tissue, they form antibodies to combat invading bacteria & viruses; they are part of the enzyme & hormonal system; they build nucleoproteins (RNA & DNA); they carry oxygen throughout the body and participate in muscle activity. Plants are the best form to receive amino acids. Meat is such an inefficient of getting your "protein" because it's all in the raw meat. The thought of eating bloody, raw meat is repulsive to most humans which is why omnivores cook it, then season it. Meat loses all of its nutrients once it has touched heat, meaning, there is hardly any amino acids left.
Anyway, I know it's quite long, but I hope I helped. Good luck.
Vegan/Raw Vegan.
Just do it! No-one needs milk unless they are a baby that needs its milk that is natural just like a calf needs its mothers milk. There is hormones in milk that has been pumped into the cow to make it produce more milk and make it produce more babies so that we can take the calve away from its mother and artificially fed so that we can steal its mothers milk. You can buy soya, rice and almond milk, Alpro yoghurt and cream and there are vegan cheeses and alternatives to eggs. There is nothing that a vegan diet cannot provide nutritionally and that includes dairy products. Get yourself a good vegan cook book and go on the web site for all the information you need.
It is perfectly healthy for teenagers to become vegan. I myself went vegan (jumped straight in, skipping vegetarianism) at 17, and I have never felt better. There are even extremely healthy people who were vegan from birth! Although, you have to make sure you're doing it right. Research vegan nutrition to make sure you get all the proper nutrients and amino acids, and get B-12 supplements.
This is a good starting point: http://www.vegetariantimes.com/2007/pdf/vegetarian_starter_kit.pdf
So's this: http://www.theveganrd.com/
Also, because you're a teenage girl, you'll need to read this: http://www.vrg.org/nutrition/iron.htm
there are no nutrients in meat that are not found in fruits, veg, grains, and legumes. get some literature, and educate yourself a little bit about nutrition, and you may find that you can be vegan and healthier then you are now. of course you could also be less healthy then you are now because there are many different 'foods' you can consume while following the same philosophy.
People have such an issue with protein!! have you ever heard of someone being sick because of a lack of protein! Plus lot's of other foods can give you plenty if not more!!!! I'm Vegan and my kids eat mostly vegan and we;re very healthy. I've never felt better. But to be vegan you gotta do your research and make sure you're eating a proper diet! Also it maybe very hard right now to be completely vegan if your mom is doing all the cooking!! You should read Alicia Silverstones book The Kind Diet you can get it at Target or Wal-mart. Good Luck!! I started off just eating Vegan 3 times a week and slowly worked my way up to full time.
yes you should wait . young adults need protein found in meat and chicken ,fish you are growing fast and it takes a lot for your body to keep growing . for how long you should wait at least till you are 20 if you get pregnant you should go off the diet the baby inside you needs more than the vegan diet can give you so wait a few years . your body and health will thank you
Veganism is healthy for anyone of any age. You're never to young to go vegan. I'm also 15 and I'm a vegan. As long as you're eating a variety of foods and not eating garbage you'll be fine!
Just eat a variety of foods such as beans, nuts/seeds, vegetables, fruits, and grains. Here's the vegan food pyramid: http://www.chooseveg.com/vegan-food-pyra…
I have been a vegan for 4 years. It is a way of life for me and I will never go back. Since you are just 15, you might want to have one of your parents and you go to see a nutritionist with a background in vegetarian/ vegan diets. It is really good that you are aware of animal rights. Good luck to you!
Oh, no. I think you should make the jump now. So what if it's not healthy? Don't be selfish. Think of the animals you'll be saving!
