I have a question about being vegan. Why is much of their food fake food?!
Answers:
As vegan, I do like a veggie patty every now and then, but it's not a mainstay of my diet. These companies have successfully marketed their products to make them prevalent in the market so I could understand why people want to eat them. They are easy, fast and tasty, the same reasons people eat real hot dogs or pre-frozen burger patties. Most vegans and vegetarians are doing it for the animals, the planet, politics, heath, whatever. Not all of them are doing it because they don't like the taste of meat. I think my mom is the only vegetarian I know that won't eat a veggie patty for this reason.
Seriously? This is like asking why people use sweetener instead of sugar. It's f*cking obvious.
People like the taste of something but choose to avoid the downsides of whatever it is. For sugar, it's the calories, so people use low-calorie alternative sweeteners to get the taste without the excess calories. For animal products it's the exploitation of animals, so people use products which imitate things we're accustomed to using like meat and dairy to get the taste without the exploitation.
A better example is actually a rapist masturbating. I don't know about you, but I'd rather the rapist be masturbating to S&M fantasies than actually raping someone. Just as I'd rather a person be eating sausages made out of tofu than killing animals.
Just for the record, I'm vegan and the only "fake" thing I have on a regular basis is soy milk, not to imitate real milk, but because it's the best thing to have on my cereal or in my smoothies. The only times I've had fake meats have been when I was curious about the taste and how close to the texture of meat it might be, as opposed to actually trying to mimic meat.
This is to compensate for those who are turning into vegetarians and vegans. Before you become a vegetarian your diet most likely included meat and you are used to eating animal protein that your body is used to it.
It just makes it easier for a vegetarian and/or vegan to still be able to savor the foods they once used to eat despite the fact it is meatless.
i can tell you this much, soy milk tastes nothing like real milk, soy cheese does not melt nicely and soy meat (my husband calls it smeat) is marginally passable as actual meat. most veggie burgers are dry and tasteless as pucks. i suppose even vegans need something to put on their non gmo corn flakes and between their sprouted wheat buns.
Some people just like the taste and they are doing it more for the ethical reasons. Personally, the only "fake" food I eat, well, drink, is soy milk, and I make my own at home. I base my diet on organic fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, etc. Hope I helped. =)
Vegan/Raw Vegan.
Good Question; many vegans also try to be " go green" but then again, processed fake food consume a lot of electricity that's why they over price the product.
lots of vegans start off eating stuff like that but cut down on it when they know more about the diet.
here's a website that has a lot of vegan food that isn't processed: http://vegweb.com/
fake lettuce and fake tomatoes?
