What are some good animal rights groups that are not too extreme?!

The best thing to do is look at all their websites and decide for yourself whether or not they are too extreme for you. You can't just rely on the opinions of anonymous contributors, otherwise you would become wikipedia.

Try Compassion Over Killing (www.cok.net). They have a kinder approach to vegetarian (well, really vegan) eating. They only focus on the dietary aspect, as they're a rather small organization, and animals raised for food comprise the vast majority of animals exploited.

I hear Mercy for Animals is also a good organization, as is Vegan Outreach.

Why don't you Google "vegetarian starter guide" and look at the organizations to see which one you like best.

MFA (aka mercy for animals) go to their web site. I always make sure to get their magizeens and pamplets when I see their booths. They're very layed back cause they aren't like PETA pushing pamplets in your face they let you come to their booth If you want and If you don't want to than they won't bug you. They have undercover investigative videos and recipies and all kinds of stuff. Check those guys out.

Vegetarian

Farm sanctuary,they just take in rescued animals and the more supporters they have the more animals they can care for. Compassion over killing is one which does investigations if you want to support that kind of activism, and they manage to operate without having half naked women on every single thing they print.

PETA sez they cannot go far enough or do enough to make people aware of animal abuse in the entertainment, food, fashion & research industries... I don't see how that can be called "extreme".
