The thing is that yes, plants are alive. But we need to eat something so plants (which have no neural system so they feel no pain) are a better alternative to animals (who do have a neural system allowing them to feel pain.)
Animals are subjected to very cruel living environments. Chicken farms are notorious for cramming chickens into one big room so tightly that they have to have their beaks removed when they are chicks so that they can't harm each other. The tight living quarters quite often drives animals of any kind insane to the point that some will kill themselves by beating themselves against the walls, attacking each other, etc.
Eating meat to the capacity that we eat it today also is very damaging for the environment. Methane gas from cow and pig farms are atrocious. The amount of energy (electricity, oil, etc) spent on raising, keeping, killing and distributing animals for food is just crazy. Cutting down or excluding meat will cut down on demand for livestock which will cut down on grains eaten by cows. These grains can be given to those who are starving.
I am also a vegetarian for health reasons. It has been proven that the healthiest diets are those that eat a variety of fruits and vegetable and exclude meat. (Actually eating fish is recommended as well but that would violate my other standards so I do not.)
Well vegetarians mean they only eat plants because a) like you said there against killing animals or b) they don't like the taste of meat or get sick from it but don't care if animals are killed to feed the world so therefore the correct word for you definition is the word "Fruit" thats what they eat and the epic level of retardness. Most "fruits" don't care that people eat animals but care for how the animals are treated like being crammed in stalls with feces and what not slipping around. There just worried there food will have some of that when they eat it.
I don't think "killing animals is bad", I just don't want to eat animals because I find animal products to be gross.
Plants are needed by humans in order to ensure proper nutrition, meat is not a necessity like plants are. Also, animals have a central nervous system and plants do not, therefore animals have sentience while plants do not.
Plants have no brain or central nervous system, therefor lack the ability to feel pain, think, or in any way experience anything. They are attached to the earth by their roots and gain energy through osmosis and biology. They are a by prodcut of germination.
Animals have a brain, central nervous system, like all animals, humans are no different.
A flower is alive, meaning it is attached to the earth to keep the flow of water in its cells.
Animals, humans included, live through free will and have intelligence.
We think and know, we feel pain, we have preferences, wether we are feline, bovine, human or bird.
All plants are the same genetically, but no animal is the same as another. We have different biology and we are unique. Some animals create masterieces or write songs, others walk 5000 miles to raise money, and others walk 5000 miles back home when they're lost.
Plants are not living creatures.
Besides- it you cut an apple from a tree, the tree lives. More apples grow.
If you kill a calf it dies. It is a whole being, and not attached to the thing that gives it life.
Killing is the right of NO ONE. We aren't the ones that came up with this idea of planet earth , so why are we so arrogant and pointlessly violent and aggressive and think its fun or OK to go clobber small calves.
It's the behaviour of thugs, simple as.
My opinion of this controversial subject is that no animal deserves to die just for the sake of being put on the shelf. Of course animals feel pain, they are a living creature they make babies, eat, drink and live. What right does a human have to kill a animal-None. So yes killing animals os sick. What would a human think if some sort of species toke over earth and slaughtered a human then ate it. It would be awful but that's what is happening to animals. Humans have no right whatsoever to kill an animal. They should just be left alone. Tbh humans are ruining the would with pollution and every think.
This is my opinion and what I believe in. Everybody has different opinions!!!
a lot of people believe "people', "animals", and "plants" are all completely different living things in different categories. People are highest (most important), than animals, then plants (least important). I agree with you though. But, if you think "there's no real difference from animals and plants" then you might wonder why its so wrong to think "there's no difference between people and animals".... I'm getting to far into the "philosophy" of the question though
"many people are against the killing of animals because they are living things"
Um, no.
Many people are against the killing of animals because they are consciously-sentient, possessing a central nervous system so that they feel pain as we do, and also a brain with which to perceive that pain.
I highly doubt you, yourself consider stabbing a dog vs. a potato to be ethically analogous.
Plants don't scream, they don't have familys, you can't form a bond with a plant the way you can with an animal, animals can provide us things like wool, milk and stuff but plants can only provide food so if we just let them fall off the tree and die by them selves it would be a big waste, we need plants to survive and it's more emotionally traumitizing to kill a plant.
We don't need meat to survive. There's plenty of substitutes for getting the necessary vitamins. I'm a vegetarian, I eat plants. I feel bad for animals. If you take away from how stupid it sounds, they actually do have a family. They have babies that they take care of. Plants don't. You're ending other living things lives because you want a steak. That's stupid.
Animals feel. Being thrown against a wall repeatedly and then if you don't die from that, your neck gets snapped. That's only if you are a chicken......
and if you eat one chicken nugget, most likely you are biting into multiple diseased chickens......
Plants don't have feelings... and they don't have eyes to stare at out or watch the life being sucked out of them.
Just Saying........

That was my silly friend answering. BAH! I dont see why she disagrees with you. I completely agree with you. I mean, we should just not eat anything. We could live off rocks like some birds.... Then starve. Or we could wait till the first of us starve to death and eat our dead compadres. Alternatively, we could just purely feed off dead things and be scavengers, so long as other things kill them first
because animals have feelings and should be treated like humans and should not be killed just to feed us americans. people r vegetarians, like me, because they feel like killing animals is not right and it is most of the time healthier because u don't eat red meat and hot dogs and theyre bad for u
When you pick an ear of corn, the stalk doesn't die... when you pick a tomato, the vine doesn't die... when you pick an apple off of a tree, the tree doesn't die... you dig potatoes only after the plant has died.... VEGETARIANS DON'T KILL PLANTS
Put a little bit more thought into it. And go check out the exact same question by someone else thats floating around right now. Honestly though, if you think that plants are on the same level as animals, then there's no point in even trying to educate you.
plants ARE alive, but they don't have brains or the ability to feel pain.
this is also why some vegies see fish as ok to eat- the majority of fish don't feel pain. (Though they do feel panic and fear when dragged out of the water.)
Why do people think that killing other people is bad?
There is absolutely no difference between a non-human-animal and a human-animal.
many of the Vegetarians (I know) that don't eat meat that are against the killing of animals are because of the living conditions that us humans put the animals through before we slice them open
because animals obviously feel pain, plus many people think we "evolved" from animals, so we are animals.
Some vegetarians are such because of health reasons also.
common sense
I think that is not the fact of killing it is the fact of not caring about how animals are important on our life
If someone is a vegitarian, it is usually because they disapprove of killing animals, not vice versa.
You are right about the plant thing, but animals just seem more alive to people. Idk why. But we need meat and plant material to survive.
