When can I see some health benefits of being Vegan?!

Question: When can I see some health benefits of being Vegan?
Thanks for the answers to my diet question below.
I became a Vegan mostly for health reasons-I am an overweight older guy with I.B.S., hypertension, and. sleep apnea.
But dont get me wrong-I just retired from the meat industry -I know what cows and pigs go through!
Its only been a couple months and I do feel 'generally better'. Since I am older and ate meat longer I expect it to take longer to see real improvements.
Thanks for your thoughts!

For hypertension, I want to pass on that I've been vegan 2 years and my blood pressure was just taken a couple days ago: 101/51. My HDL is 56 and my LDL is 83. Pretty awesome if you ask me! Please note that my blood pressure went down about 10 points on systolic and about 24 points on diastolic after I started working out again.

I have IBS as well and you still need to pay attention to that. I can't handle iceberg lettuce of baby greens, and can only handle gluten and soy in very small amounts (about 3oz). I take a digestive enzyme and aloe gel if I'm out of luck and have to eat those foods (very rare) but what really helps me is raw food. If most of the meal I eat is raw, I don't even need my digestive enzymes. Awesome!

If you feel generally better, you're on the right track but I'm very happy to evaluate your diet if you want to contact me.

According to a study done in 1984, all 26 hypertension patients placed on a vegan diet reported feeling better to completely recovered within four months. Only six of them were still on medication after one year while the remaining 6 were on lower doses (average 50% of the initial dosage).

"The systolic blood pressure at the 1-year follow-up was unchanged in four cases, higher in four cases and lower in eighteen. In two of the four cases where blood pressure increased after commencing the regimen without medication, the values were 175 and 190 mmHg (a rise of 5 and 10 mmHg respectively) but for the rest of the cases the values were still below the normal limit of 165 mmHg. The diastolic blood pressure was unchanged after 1 year in three cases, higher but not above 95 mmHg in eight cases and lower in fifteen cases." - (LINDAHL et al. (1984). I can't find anything discussing IBS or sleep apnea from scienitifc sources, although there are a couple of pseudoscience papers discussing homeopathy etc. Might as well use prayer as food if you want to take that stuff seriously.

Vegetarians do not eat meat, fish, or poultry. Vegans, in addition to being vegetarian, do not use other animal products and by-products such as eggs, dairy products, honey, leather, fur, silk, wool, cosmetics, and soaps derived from animal products. The key to a nutritionally sound vegan diet is variety. A healthy and varied vegan diet includes fruits, vegetables, plenty of leafy greens, whole grain products, nuts, seeds, and legumes. Almost all foods except for alcohol, sugar, and fats provide some protein. Vegan sources include: lentils, chickpeas, tofu, peas, peanut butter, soy milk, almonds, spinach, rice, whole wheat bread, potatoes, broccoli, kale...

It would vary from person to person, and would depend on exactly what vegan foods you eat. I know a lot of health regimens, homeopathic/naturopathic remedies, vitamin supplements etc. take about six weeks to have noticeable effects. In my experience, you don't fully realise when the improvements occur. You just realise "hey, I haven't had IBS (for e.g.) for a while now".

It varies because every individual is different.

I was an overweight teenager, weighing 215 pounds at 5'8. I'm now 125 pounds. I lost all of that weight in as little as 6 months. My mom has been vegan for the past year and has only lost 10.

It's different for everyone. I have more energy, more clear skin, lost a few pounds, and got shinier hair. But for people like you that have health problems, you might notice different changes than I did. I hope this helped:)!
