The Health Master seems to do the same type of job, and is around $200. I have not investigated the claims or customer reviews (not testimonials) of this product, so investigate and approach with caution. It may not be as well made nor have as good a warranty as the Vitamix. It is an infomercial product, which in general are not high quality. From my own experience and that of other users, the Vitamix is a very well made and durable product which could last for a very long time.
I have a Vitamix and have been very pleased with it for over three years. It is certainly expensive, about $500. But it offers some unique benefits that you seem to be aware of. One great example is with hummus, tahini in particular. Hummus is a very popular dish, particularly for veg*s, but the main drawback is that tahini is almost prohibitively expensive at around $9 or more per pound. Sesame seeds, on the other hand, are more around $3 or less per pound. With the Vitamix, you can add the seeds directly to the hummus recipe without making tahini first, making the process very convenient and much less costly than buying or making tahini. If you make a lot of hummus, the Vitamix will practically pay for itself in only a few years. Then there is the overall convenience and benefit of consuming the whole fruit or vegetable, not to mention the ease of clean up. Juicers are a complete pain to clean. Good luck at any rate.
