Question: Going vegetarian because if IBS?
Okay, so, recently for the past week after every meal I've been experiencing rather uncomfortable loose stools that stem from my IBS. I had a test done years ago that shows I don't process meat the same way a normal person does, the fibers don't get broken down properly. So, I had to go vegetarian for a time because of it and gradually reintroduced meat back into my diet.

However, it's been nearly ten years since then and my body is starting to reject food again. All food. So I'm thinking of going back onto a vegetarian diet for a few months to a year to get everything straightened out. My question is, since I can't remember how I introduced the diet ten years ago, do I do it gradually or cold turkey? My stomach is a bit frail right now and don't want to shock it too much.

Also, does this happen to anyone else?

Answers:

Eliminate dairy, citrus, soy, corn, gluten, caffeine, alcohol and smoking. Avoid for a period of time of about two to three weeks. Then re-introduce one new food every couple of days. See if symptoms return or there is a negative reaction when re-introducing a food.

Peppermint tea offers some relief of symptoms like abdominal pain, bloating, gas, diarrhea, and spasms.

A diet of at least 75% raw foods (fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds. juices) can be invaluable for long term management.



Well based off my own experiences the higher intake of fruits & vegetables have helped me lets just say feel satisfied in the morning.
Not too sure if the meat or high intake of milk was causing any problems but most certainly i can say that vegetables & fruit have helped regulate my body so to speak in terms of excretion.

Best talk to the doctor or dietician of his recommendation however rather than an internet forum for advice

I read somewhere that Probiotics helps immensely with IBS. you should check it out with your DR.



I also have IBS and raw veganism really helps me. I don't eat completely raw but do much of the time and that helps. I have a hard time with soy and gluten and can't handle iceberg lettuce of mixed greens. I'm not sure what you mean, that you can't go vegan because of the foods they "supplement." What supplemental foods?

If I learned anything from this, it's that IBS sucks and I don't want to irritate it. You say that you want to "straighten out" everything by going veg for up to a year...but if meat irritates your IBS why would you ever want to go back to it? You can contact me with that info and maybe we can find a vegan diet for you.



Most people don't process meat well at all. Most people don't realize just how much meat they really pass. It doesn't get digested.

I suggest letting your body detoxify, and suggest going vegan. Govegan.com has a lot of answers to your questions.

Talk to a nutritionist about how to go about going vegan with IBS. I did it cold turkey, and my body spent the first week detoxing, but with IBS, you may want to do it gradually. I don't suggest introducing meat back into your diet, or this is going to be a constant problem.

Edit: What do you mean by supplement? Do beans, legumes, and so on upset your IBS?
