Are vegetarians really healhtier because...?!
Answers:
You are right and I've said as much before. That all things being equal, all diets are healthy if done correctly.
However, your friend might simply be implying that since the diet switch, she became more conscientious about what she puts in her body. That her being a vegetarian "forced" her to reevaluate not only her eating habits but her general lifestyle.
It isn't enough to cut meat out of your diet. There are plenty of unhealthy vegetarians out there who eat a lot of processed food and don't exercise. The key to good health is to eat a balanced diet that consists mainly of whole foods and few to no animal products, drink lots of water, exercise for 30 minutes about 5 days per week, and get plenty of sleep. Diet is crucial to a healthy lifestyle, but it isn't everything.
its a myth that veggies are more healthy or less healthy than meat eaters
liek any person its mostly about how well you eat, not the specific 'diet' your on
so yes a veggie may become healther cos they eat less junk food, but some arent, and soem meat eaters are
seems your friend needed a jolt to change her lifestyle and becoming veggie was it, but it wasnt a direct result of her health on its own as you yourself say,
but theres no point arguing with her about it, if this is what she wants to think, then thats ok, if it gives her a reason to stay healthy, thats not bad
I agree with Sadie you can be a Vegetarian and still eat badly!! Some don't actually get enough of what their body needs cause they just don't know how to eat properly and can be very unhealthy! But if they do get proper and don't eat much sugars and processed foods, well yes then that person may be very healthy!! No need for your friend to throw it in your face though!!
I finally agree with exsft! Most likely, she became more conscious about what she eats. That's what happened to me after becoming vegan. I got encouraged to eat healthy to make it work for me. I was mostly on the SAD diet. Veganism changed my eating habits for the better. I'm thankful for that. I still eat junk food sometimes but I mostly try to eat a variety of whole foods.
No. Meat has just as much nutrients in it as vegetables do.
It's all about MODERATION. Which, vegetarians don't do, so I'd say they were LESS healthy.
Vegetarians can still be unhealthy, but it means you can't pig out on most fast foods and candys.
That can be some of the reasons, yes. There's people that eat a very unhealthy veg*n diet though.
