Will going Vegan cause me to lose weight?!


Question: Will going Vegan cause me to lose weight?
I'm not going vegan to lose weight, but rather for the positive attributes of leading a vegan lifestyle. I just want to know if this will cause me to lose weight and if it does, will it be pure body fat or muscle? Thanks!

It'll cause you to lose weight if you don't eat enough calories. If you burn more calories than you take in, you'll start losing fat first, then muscle. If you start losing muscle mass at ALL, that's not a good thing. What you might do is keep track of your calorie intake for a week on a vegan diet.

I tried to go vegan a few years back, but I went back to eating some dairy and eggs for metabolic and digestive reasons. Everyone's different though -- give it a try and see what ya think.



Walk for 45 minutes a day. The reason we're suggesting 45 minutes instead of the typical 30 is that a Duke University study found that while 30 minutes of daily walking is enough to prevent weight gain in most relatively sedentary people, exercise beyond 30 minutes results in weight and fat loss. Burning an additional 300 calories a day with three miles of brisk walking (45 minutes should do it) could help you lose 30 pounds in a year without even changing how much you're eating.



When I was a vegan, I suddenly realized that I could no longer eat cookies, cakes, ice cream, well most deserts (unless they are vegan, but I didn't have a bunch of vegan deserts lying around my kitchen, luckily). Not only did I realize that I was limiting most/all the fattening foods in my diet, I also realized how much of these fattening foods I was consuming. So, by becoming a vegan, I inevitably lost a few of those excess pounds I was lugging around since I was eating less junk. Which was great for my health. I still went to the gym and replaced that once-unhealthy-desert stomach space with delicious-nutritious-food space, so I never lost any muscle. Just unneeded fat. And I felt great!

However, the one thing I recommend about veganism is easing into it slowly. I went cold-turkey and that wasn't ideal for me. So test the water first and see what works for your body. Good luck!



No, in fact you COULD put on wieght, by eating peanut butter and jelly fried sandwiches.
And banana fried rice
and oatmeal with walnuts almonds and soycream and brown sugar
and fires with ketchup and hummous with pita bread and avocados with veganaise and coconut pudding and fried noodles with peanuts and sate sauce all day long.


Fewer calories makes you lose weight.



No, it won't so long as you learn how to balance your food so you get the right amount of nutrients you need. Eating things like legumes, nuts and seeds will still give you the protein you need to stay healthy. My Mum is a vegan and she is a normal weight.



No matter what diet or lifestyle you choose, the only way you will lose weight is to burn more calories than you consume.

I was a vegan for 6 years and i was skinny.
Since eating meat,even healthy i have put on weight.
so yes, being a vegan will cause you to lose weight.



You may loss weight!! They say being Vegan will give you your going given body. I started out very small but had lost about 10 pounds slowly!! Something I wanted off after my 3rd kid LOL. I fee like I'm at my perfect weight.



you will only lose weight if you consume less calories than you burn, just like any other diet
