I'm a lacto ovo vegetarian and i've been using granulated sugar.?!

Question: I'm a lacto ovo vegetarian and i've been using granulated sugar.?
I've only used sugar because the bone char wasn't in the final product and I thought that would be okay to consume also I heard that the bones were found, and when I heard or saw that somewhere I thought oh the animals died without the people knowing so they just used those bones. I recently read from one of my yahoo post that they actually go through someone or someone called an abbatoir which is a slaughterhouse :( I was wondering is granulated sugar still okay for me to eat? Or should I switch to beet sugar and how much does beet sugar cost. I hate making these mistakes!

Answers:

use an organic sugar.

Using dairy and eggs causes more harm than using sugar that was filtered through a bone char filter. I would worry about that before the sugar. But sugar that's organic in the US doesn't pass through bone char filters. Only white cane sugar is made with the filters. Beet sugar is not. Evaporated cane juice is also okay. Some white cane sugar refineries do not use bone char in filtration. Here's a good article on sugar from the Vegetarian Resource Group. http://www.vrg.org/journal/vj2007issue4/…

if your avoiding sugar because its made with bone char, there is vegan sugar which is the same as everyday sugar but without the bone char filtration. since your going the extra mile, why not just think about cutting out milk and getting soy milk or almond milk instead.
