Do you find it funny when someone says they're Vegetarian/Vegan for "environmental/ethical reasons" yet s!

Question: Do you find it funny when someone says they're Vegetarian/Vegan for "environmental/ethical reasons" yet say...?
they shop at Wal-Mart?

Answers:

It is almost impossible to be entirely consistent in a person's everyday activities. Think of the things that you detest the most. Let's pretend that it is people with orange hair. How could you possibly screen all of your purchases and activities to make sure that they weren't benefiting someone with orange hair? Maybe the woman that you but coffee from gives her daughter money that is used to buy orange hair dye! Do you understand how impossible this is?

Back to your question: Sure Wal-mart represents everything evil about the corporate world, but on the other hand, they may be the only place that some people can buy, due to location, transportation restrictions, etc.

Additionally, since Wal-mart is so huge, the fact that they offer vegetarian food like veggie dogs and organic items have a tremendous impact in making these items more mainstream and exposing these things to people who have never seen them. This fact alone may make more people become vegetarian than all of the health/ environmental/ ethics classes or books in the world.

Personally, I'll never shop at Wal-mart unless I'm stranded in a town without anything else. But I have local access to one of the best natural food stores within a thousand miles.

Sometimes things like this aren't so black-and-white.

No I don't. I generally don't find the plight people who may have financial difficulties amusing. You observation also just gives credence to the arguments ans stereotypes that state 1) vegetarians and vegans are just merely trend and fad followers that conform to "rules" in order to fit in 2) that being a vegetarian and vegan is only possible if you can afford to buy the "correct food" from the "correct store" and 3) vegetarians and vegans are overly anal about what "true vegetarians" should do/should be and like stick their nose into other peoples private business where it does not belong.

They also drink cow milk even though they claim they are against factory farming and animal cruelty. Plus, some do it for health benefits. It doesn't matter that it's raw, organic, or pasteurized , cow milk is unhealthy for you. Cow milk is meant for calves only.

No. Every little bit helps.

I do find it funny when people who don't adopt ANY lifestyle change to better the world criticize others, though.

i hate this 'who is the better vegan/vegetarian-thing' its silly. Who cares, its not a compatition. Puh

I really don't like walmart much but some people live in towns so small that there's no where else to shop .and walmart does have better prices on food

I think it's silly to hate on people just for their eating preferences.

nah. wal mart might be the only store in town. everyone should fair trade products

There are many incongruencies out there in the world...
