Help with sticking to being a vegetarian?!

Question: Help with sticking to being a vegetarian?
I'm a vegetarian, and have been for about three months. I was a vegetarian last year for only two months but I have awful willpower and ate meat, so three months ago I became one again.

I'm ok at the moment, I've not had cravings or anything but I'm scared that in a couple of months I'll start wanting some bacon or something and I might give in. I have awful willpower.
I really don't want to cave in, I enjoy being vegetarian. I think meat just causes unnecessary suffering and I feel generally more healthy and pleasant without meat.

How can I make sure I stick to being a vegetarian?
I really used to think meat was quite tasty, and whereas I am quite content with being meat-free at the moment, I know that meat substitutes just aren't as nice.

Any tips or tricks? Thanks xx

I'm not a a vegetarian myself, but I think all you need to do is try. If you really want to be a vegetarian, you'll stick to it. Also, for every month you continue being a veggie, give yourself a reward or something. You know, like chocolate :)

There aren't any. People become vegetarians for different reasons and you've named some good ones (I eat meat and wouldn't dream of giving it up). You're simply going to have to constantly remind yourself WHY you're choosing not to eat meat and hopefully that's enough. If you're tempted by meat and still enjoy it, there's really not much you can do but continually tell yourself not to do it. Good luck!

If you are having intense food cravings your body is trying to tell you that it's not getting what it needs. Meat contains fat, minerals, and protein. You need all of those things, yes even fat. Evaluate what you are eating and see if you are missing something in your diet.

When I am on the Atkin's diet, which is very highly restrictive about sugars, I literally have dreams at night and fantasize during the day about eating fruits and sweets. It's crazy because I really don't have a sweet tooth normally.

When/if you get the temptation to eat meat, think of it as a dead rotting carcass, and thats exactly what it is, isn't it? YUMMY (not). Good luck!

If god wanted you to be a vegetarian, then why did he make animals out of meat?

keep meat of of your mouth
just use self control

ive been a vegetarian for 32 years

Watch some videos on how they kill the animals to make meat. you would never be able to eat it again. Good luck!

give up!

watch the peta videos. all of it. no shutting your eyes. really watch those animals and their horrible pain. its worse than a nightmare.

think of meat as dead bodies covered in sauce. its not food. you cant think of it that way, because its not. its a dead body.

get some good meat substitutes to fix your cravings, or to eat with friends while they are eating their meat. Gardin makes the BEST chicken nuggets ever, let your friends have one, they wont even know its not chicken.

If you are having unsupressable cravings, it probably means you are not giving your body something it needs. Make sure you are getting enough protein. I think its about 60-70 grams per day for women. take a multivitamin and eat lots of fruit and veggies. As a vegetarian, you cant subsist on potato chips and cheese pizza.

There's no magic tip or trick for any kind of diet, sadly. It all depends on how much something means to you and what you're willing to give up. What's your priority? This reminds me of when people struggling to lose weight chalk any failure up to willpower and say "Oh, well."

There's not much to say - it's up to THEM to make the decision to put the results they want before immediate cravings. I don't see how this is much different. Think about your reasons for becoming a vegetarian when you feel tempted, but if that doesn't stop you, I don't know what will. You have to take responsibility for your choices.

Don't! Vegetarianism is genuinely unhealthy! You can only go without meat so long, your body needs it for healing, not all animals suffer and they're already dead! Not eating meat isn't going to magically bring them back to life! You want to be good to them? Try eating free range or voulenteering at an animal shelter, don't buy products that test on animals etc Just DON'T hurt yourself! My sister was a vegetarian and she got really, really ill after a while, she had been eating all of those dumb alternative sources for protein and she almost died because her body couldn't function properly! Don't be stupid, be good to your body.

The truth.

watch more docos, do more research, don't forget why you became vegetarian.

discover more vegetarian foods, so that you have new favourite foods that are vego. like maybe a restuarant that does some amazing dish, so maybe you will crave that one day instead of bacon and eggs....

sometimes you might crave meat when you don't feel satisfied, so eat plenty of foods like chickpeas, lentils, bread, pasta, rice... maybe heavier vegetables like potatoes.

also there is immitation meat. some people don't really like it, but if you do get a craving, it could help.

I don't really belive in punishing yourself for something like that though. If you reeeeeeally want to eat a piece of bacon, eat a piece of bacon. You can't be called a vegetarian, but who cares, you're trying you best at doing your part. If you really want to eat meat, have one meat meal a week or something. Maybe oneday you'll get to that day in the week and decide you don't want to it, then you wait the next week, or the next week and you may neever eat meat again after that. It doesn't have to be this sudden thing that you just decide instantly. It can be something you graduate into.
