how many animals are slaughtered each year?!

Question: How many animals are slaughtered each year?
i'm doing a speech on how slaughter houses are wrong. i need to know how many animals each year are slaughtered. could someone please tell me about how many chickens, cattle, pigs, fish, and possibly other animals are slaughtered each year; month; or week(it doesn't really matter)?
oh, and don't answer with **** about how it isn't wrong to slaughter animals because i honestly don't care about your heartless opinions. can someone PLEASE just give me an answer that i want to hear? Thank you.

Answers:

In the United States, around nine billion animals are slaughtered every year (this includes about 150.4 million cattle, bison, sheep, hogs, and goats and 8.9 billion chickens, turkeys, and ducks) in 5,700 slaughterhouses and processing plants employing 527,000 workers; in 2007, 28.1 billion pounds of beef were consumed in the U.S. alone. In Canada, 650 million animals are killed annually. In the European Union, the annual figure is 300 million cattle, sheep, and pigs, and four billion chickens.

The USDA reports how many domesticated animals are killed for food every year. You can do an internet search and probably find it. The article linked says about 8.4 billion animals are killed in the US for food each year. 8 billion are chickens. Only 41 million are ruminant animals. If someone just cut out chicken, they'd decrease the number of animals killed.

But if you're honest (and we know your momma raised you to be honest), you will also include the millions of animals slaughtered by farm equipment to provide the veggies and grains that veg*ns eat.

The same article shows that approx 1.2 billion small animals (mice, moles, rabbits) are killed in the fields during the planting, cultivating and harvesting of grains and veggies for the veg*n diet.

So if you don't eat chicken, add some pasture raised beef to your diet, you would kill fewer animals.

That is the point of your speech, right? That killing animals is wrong? Surely you're not a speciest that thinks it's wrong to kill a cow for my diet, but ok to kill a field mice for your diet?

There are hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions of animals slaughtered each year that are poisoned, trapped or shot because they are eating vegetable crops grown to satiate the vegan lifestyle. If you add in the multitudes of more animals that die because they are displaced by agriculture the number is even more staggering. It's a hard pill to swallow for vegetarians but the truth is the truth. You can have your own opinions but there is only one true fact and these true facts are not always "what you want to hear".

If you don't care about our "heartless" opinions, then not only are you a judgmental, apathetic zealot convinced of her own self-righteousness, you don't deserve any help promoting your narrow-minded cause. Grow up and get over yourself!

about 10 million and by being vegan you save about 90 per year
