Is being a vegan/vegetarian haram?!

Question: Is being a vegan/vegetarian haram?
Is it haram, as long as you find the nutrients from meat elsewhere? Because I heard that there is a good vegan diet (excluding one day, you can cheat for a day) that helps you have more energy & stay awake for the day.

A friend of mine (non-Muslim) does it and she is slim (but not size 0) and she is always able to do active things with her day, but she still gets all her proteins and fat from cooking with oils & high-protein foods.

I have prolonged periods of laziness with my days simple because I feel lazy; bloated; tired etc. Would this help?

So, would I be haram?

Many thanks in advance and peace be upon you all & your families.

Answers:

If i understand correctly, the classification haram is only for meats...so if you don't eat meat at all, you should be fine. I had muslim friends in school who were vegans because they couldn't find haram meat in and around school. So I think you should be fine if you become vegan. Good luck!

Yogaman is correct. I found that there is more inner harmony once I stopped contributing to the pain and suffering of the creatures of Allah.

no it is not haram.
