Question about a stuck-up vegan?!

Question: Question about a stuck-up vegan?
My sister is a high-maintenance vegan person. Can someone please explain why she gets so worked up when we tell her she can just pick the meat out of something?

Answers:

Most vegans are like that. They're just like children.

Being a vegan has nothing to do with being high-maintenance or stuck-up. Vegans are devoted to respecting and preserving animal life, so it isn't as easy as picking the meat out of an entree or side dish. By "eating around" the meat, most vegans feel they're tolerating the destruction of an animal, even though they're not actually eating the flesh. In order to understand the mindset of a vegan, you need to consider their regard for all forms of conscious life.

Think about if you had a certain food that you morally objected to, that the smell disgusted you, that you would probably feel ill if you tasted it, that leaves fat and bits and traces behind even when you pick it out - would you want it in your food for you to pick out? I'd guess not.
Most vegetarians and vegans don't, so shes pretty normal for a vegan. I'm vegan myself and theres no way I would pick meat out of my food then eat it.

Also, would you think a person who didn't eat meat for religious reasons was ''stuck-up'' for not wanting to have to pick it out of their food?
Or if someone had an allergy, would they be ''stuck-up'' for not wanting to have to pick the food they were allergic to out of their food?
Veganism may be a choice but it can still mean a lot to the person, and can be something they believe in strongly.

I know when I first became vegan, I was alright with picking the meat out of food. But after awhile meat became so disgusting to me, the thought of eating something that had touched meat would make me want to vomit. Basically, I would rather starve than eat something that touched meat. I would completely lose my appetite anyway. It doesn't feel the same as not eating a certain food because you don't like it, because vegans and vegetarians can't even think of animals as food in the first place. Personally, eating meat feels like eating another person to me. The thought of eating anything that had meat in it actually gives me mental anguish.

She's just being silly. The idea behind veganism is that you won't support the animal industry in any way. So don't eat meat, buy leather, etc.

But when the meat is set in front of your sister, obviously she isn't affecting the animal industry by refusing to eat it. And if it's picked out, she's not even eating it!

You might point out to her that she uses lots of things that benefit the animal industry. The tires on her car have byproducts of animal slaughter, the bindings in her books contain animal glues, probably her wooden furniture, too, sidewalks, animal slaughter byproducts are used in the transmission of electricity. She uses electricity doesn't she? While her shoes may not be leather, chances are very, very good that the equipment that manufactured them is lubed by animal slaughter byproducts. The wallboard in her room contains animal slaughter byproducts.

Oh, and you should point out that her diet choices (grains and veggies) result in animals being killed, too. Why is it wrong to kill a cow so I can eat, but ok to kill a billion small animals in the fields for the vegetarian diet?

From this link:

"Animals of the field are killed by several factors, including:

1. Tractors and farm implements run over them.
2. Plows and cultivators destroy underground burrows and kill animals.
3. Removal of the crops (harvest) removes ground cover allowing animals on the surface to be killed by predators.
4. Application of pesticides."

Cause they are pushy and it makes them feel morally superior cause they don't eat meat. She's throwing it in your face that her lifestyle is different than yours, and in her opinion, better. She has a problem with you eating meat, and in an attempt to force you to conform, she's gonna complain until you just get whatever dish your eating together without meat. That's what people in a minority position try to do, b*tch till they get their way. She probably learned it by observing PETA. Next time she gets all high and mighty remind her that almost every culture on the planet eats meat and that she's the 0minority, not you, so deal and quit trying to push her values on you. After all, its not like your trying to force her to eat whatever it is with the meat in it, you told her to pick it out.
** In response to the person who compared bird poop to meat, I would pick it out. Then heat it back up to kill any bacteria. The diference though is that the bird poop wasn't USDA inspected and deemed fit for human consumption. Eating poop straight from the source would cause disease. Eating meat, pepared in a sanitary manner won't kill a vegan. Plus if she just picks it out and sets it aside, that just makes it so he can have more meat in his dish. Its not like by not eating meat your "saving an animal" Y'all need to learn to be more tolerant.
++As for the lady who asked if I would be disgusted eating a dish made with human meat, no, but it would be illegal so I wouldn't. If I were starving on a desert island and it was me or you, your prob gonna get a rock to the head, lord of the fly's style. Just sayin.

tired of seeing "meat is murder" all over a salad lover's personal belongings.

After going vegan, I hate the flavor of meat. Even the scent of it is completely disgusting...it smells like hot animal urine, a sweaty, hairy man or roadkill bloating and rotting in the sun for the past 5 days...definitely unappetizing, and keep in mind I used to eat a LOT of meat.

So when someone says, "Just pick out the meat," that is like saying, "I know that the scent and taste of this stuff makes you want to vomit, but I don't really care about you, your choices or your personal preferences. I would rather continue doing things my way because I don't give a damn about you, you can go f*ck yourself and pick out the meat."

She's not being stuck-up if she doesn't want to pick the meat out. The oil from the meat gets into the food, making it not-vegan.

I'm not a high-maintenance vegan (in fact, my omnivore sister is much more high-maintenance about food than I am), but that's kind of gross. If she's in a restaurant and asks for a dish without meat, they should make it that way. If you're cooking for her, just don't add meat to her food! It's that simple.

You can always suggest to her that she could make her own food when people are cooking dinner. Seriously, though, it's not that hard to NOT add meat to things. If you're making pasta and putting a meat sauce on it, just make some pasta WITHOUT the sauce.

I mean, would you say someone who has an allergy is being stuck-up because they won't eat something that's been contaminated? I know it's not the same thing, but you make the same accommodations for them. So why not her? She's your SISTER.

If I could talk to her, I would tell her that she should really learn to cook. Knowing how to cook for myself is an integral part of my vegan lifestyle. People LIKE my food, too, which makes my veganism more acceptable to people. Tell her to learn how to cook and you won't be as annoyed with her. I promise!

If you were eating and a bird pooped on your food, you wouldn't just pick it out and keep eating.
She's not high-maintenance, she just thinks of things in a different way than you.

She is not stuck up, any food that has been cooked along with meat will have shared the same juices, smell and taste. Meat contaminates the food that it is cooked with.

she's not high-maintenance. you just don't comprehend the concept of being a vegan....

"just pick the meat out..." seriously??

If there was human meat on your food, and someone told you to "just" pick it out,
wouldn't you be horrified?
