Vegan, have you ever felt these symptoms?!

Question: Vegan, have you ever felt these symptoms?
After becoming vegan for a year, I've been feeling like my "blood pressure drops." It has happened three times total already in the last month and I'm just concern. I feel like I'm going to pass out but the symptoms just stay mild. I've started to supplement with B-12 and vitamin D a week ago to see if helped. Yesterday is when I got those symptoms for the third time. Jack Norris Rd suggested it sounded like low blood sugar.

I'm 24, female 129 lbs. Obviously I try to eat healthy and I kinda do eat a lot. I am considering going to get a blood test soon. Idk if it could be related to diet or something else. Has anyone experience any symptoms like that?

Answers:

What are the symptoms? Do you feel nizzy, numb, weak, etc? Have you been to the doctor yet?

Weakness, tiredness, being dizzy are signs of B-12 defiency. Other symptoms may include ( that you haven't mentioned ): sore tongue, pale skin, being sick to your stomach, easy bruising or bleeding, etc?

Also, are you getting enough iron? Iron defiency is VERY common among women, but that's because we're always losing blood via menstration. Anyway, you did say your iron levels were getting kinda low, why you stopped, etc, so I think iron defiency might really be the problem. When you are deficient in iron, you feel dizzy and weak. When I had anorexia ( I was also eating chicken, so I'm not vegan ) I was deficient in iron. I felt dizzy and weak.

Even women who eat red meat sometimes have issues with being low in iron. For some reason it's hard for a lot of women to get thier iron.

Low blood sugar? Are you eating enough? If so, then that should not be the problem. If you haven't been to the doctor, have them check your iron and b 12 levels. Blood sugar should probably be checked, too, just in case.

I don't think it's a vegan issue but you should keep taking a multi vitamin and a complete (complete!) B complex. If you're feeling tired a lot (easily exhausted, worn out) and you have cold-like symptoms, you might have a sinus infection.

Many things can contribute to feelings of light-headedness. But because this is a recurring symptom, I would make an appt with your doctor ASAP and get full blood work done. I wouldn't make any major changes to your diet until you find out what's going on with you. But yeah -- blood work ASAP.

some blood types are not compatible with a vegan lifestyle. i knew a girl who had to start eating dairy and egg again because her body could not go on without it, this is what the doctor told her.

I have felt like that but I have low blood pressure anyway. Do you drink enough water? This is what they told me I need to do.

P.S. cute dog she look like mine.

Yes I have about 5 years ago. It was a viral infection in the middle ear causing loss of equilibrium and dizzy spells.

Go to the doctor.

No, I've never had that problem. You should be sure to eat more iron, that might be an issue. I get lots of B12 and Vitamin D, and I've been making a bigger effort to get at least 18 grams of iron a day.

Then again, I don't donate blood because I'm on special SSRI's that can affect donated blood, so I'm not in danger of low iron due to donated blood.

Unless you pay more careful attention to grams of protein, B12, and iron, it's very easy to become nutritionally deficient. But, if done right, it can be the healthiest diet you can eat.

i'm not vegan but i do try to learn about anatomy and science...it seems your body misses the protein...i would recommend taking expensive protein supplement pills...or back out of your vegan life style
