How expensive are nut butters in the USA?!

Question: How expensive are nut butters in the USA?
Here in the UK all nut butters eg. almond, cashew etc. NOT peanut (they're not nuts they're legumes) are very expensive compared to peanut butter, and only sold in small quantities by health food shops and the like. How expensive and readily available are they in the USA?

Answers:

@Avocado: For relatively up to date currency conversion, just type x dollars to pounds (will assume BPS), or x dollars to euros and it spits out the answer. You can also do this with math and weight conversions. Very handy.

I'm beginning to like your questions Original Bangers B*tch...

Trader Joe's is the best commercial store I have every come across for many things, including nut butters. You'll get better prices at local CO-OPs and health food stores that have bulk sections where you fill up your own little tub and prices are by the pound.

You can get a 12 oz. jar of Raw Almond Butter for $4.99 and Cashew Macadamia Nut Butter for $5.99 at Trader Joe's.

At my local CO-OP they have big vats of almond butter for $8.99 /lb and cashew butter for $9.19 /lb. 1 lb = about half a kg.

The Superior Nut Store (www.superiornutstore.com) has a variety of nut butters, almost all for $9.95 /lb. $12.95 /lb for things like macadamia nut butter.

So, if you know someone who's visiting you from the US, maybe they can bring a bunch in their luggage.

Hope that helps!

Peanut butter is definitely the cheapest nut butter here. The all-natural kinds tend to be more expensive, but if you purchase them in bulk from places like Costco, it's actually cheaper per ounce than crappy peanut butters that people get from grocery stores.

Almond, cashew, hazelnut, etc. butters are always more expensive, unless there's a sale on them somewhere. I don't eat them that often because they cost a lot. They are much cheaper to make if you get nuts in bulk, but it takes a lot of energy to make them. I do that sometimes, and it tastes better but I have to grind them for a REALLY long time.

I usually just stick to peanut butter, for expense's sake.

Peanut butter, depending on quality, can cost anywhere from $3-$8 for a 16oz jar. I think that's about £1.50-£5? I'm not that familiar with the currency equivalencies.

They're pretty easy to find in most grocery stores. Almond butter is available virtually everywhere, but you'd have to go to a store like Whole Foods or an organic store to find the less common ones like macadamia or hazelnut butter.

Prices vary with brand. For an 8oz jar of almond butter, expect to pay about $6, with larger jars going as high as $15.

Where I shop:
Generic peanut butter you can get for around 2 USD. Name brands go from 2 - 4 USD.

Nutella (chocolate and nut butter) is 6 USD.

Almond butter Im not sure I never buy.

It also depends on the store you shop at. One store in the USA sells milk for 6 USD per gallon while another store will sell the exact same brand for 4 USD. It really depends where you shop.

There is a small vegan botique down the street from me that sells cashew butter for about four dollars for a 16oz tub.
