Isn't the thought of eating a dead animal DISGUSTING?? (10 points)?!

Question: Isn't the thought of eating a dead animal DISGUSTING?? (10 points)?
I was raised a vegetarian. The thought of murdering an innocent cow, fish, pig, chicken, or turkey just disgusts me. How can humans be so cruel?? Taking the life of an animal (especially if you hunt) to me is mind baffling.....and the thought of putting it in your mouth??? YUCK. Not many people feel the same way as me though and I don't understand why.

Answers:

Yes it is. Anyone who decides to murderer a "150 pound deer" is very selfish. People have to realize that humans (not incliding the humans living in third world countries) don't need to kill animals to survive anymore! Killing an animal for survival like starving people and animals in the wild do is completly different than murderering a deer on a hunting trip or slitting a pigs throat because it tastes good. The idea of putting a dead animal in my mouth makes me want to throw up especially when you think about the horible life it had on that factory farm.

Being at the top of the food chain means we're evolved enough to begin to realize that our treatment of factory farmed animals is appalling. People misconstrue the idea of "top of the food chain" as "we can kill whatever we want and do whatever we like". Meat disgusts me, the thought of gaining pleasure out of shooting a helpless animal while it flees for its life in vain is horrendous. For me, there is no argument and there is no excuse for the way we treat animals in this day and age.

Also, some of the smartest humans, such as Albert Einstein and Pythagoras, were vegetarians. Just shows how much more evolved they are, being able to make the moral decision instead of letting their tastebuds make their decisions.

No it is not "disgusting" to me- but then, I am not a naive, squeamish little city girl.

There is nothing cruel about eating meat, in and of itself.
There is nothing "mind baffling" about hunting, except for those people that gain their limited knowledge of it from watching Disney films and PETA propaganda.
There is nothing "innocent" about animals, and murder is a term that applies to killing humans, not livestock and game.

Well me and about 6 Billion other people don't think its disgusting. And I have never murdered anyone. You think killing an animal for food is cruel, well that's just your opinion. And there are many people still living today without modern convenience's. They have to eat whatever they can find just to survive.

Every single life from on this planet exists at the expense of another life form. If you took this out of the equation all life would die. In order for something to live, something has to die. Its how the world works whether you like it or not.

Oh and animals also die for your diet. A death for a diet is a death for a diet.

When I eat a 150 pound deer only ONE animal dies. When a vegan eats 150 pounds of produce 150 animals die.

Wow people are being really defensive today.
Some people can understand animals more than others. Humans are cruel because we have way too much power in the world. I agree with you though, knowing that the lifeless flesh someone puts in their mouth was once living and moving around. It would make more sense to eat meat if you didn't see anything wrong with killing people either. The definition of murder is to kill intentionally with premeditation, therefore killing animals is murder. I hate when people compare humans to lions, bears, sharks, etc. We relate more to their prey than them. If nature says it's so, then it should be so. I'm not saying vegetarians are completely guilt-free though. We still do kill, but to a much lesser extent.

Everyone has their own opinions on this. Most people agree that their is nothing disgusting with eating an animal and their are no meat eating animals that are going to turn down killing another animal because it is "disgusting". Maybe the fact that we have always eaten meat is why people don't find it disgusting?

Hello,

In fairness your view is a biosed one as you have never eaten meat i was raised a meat eater i chose to go veggie of of my own back due to ethical resons so to me to eat another animal was "normal" i do think its crule how the animals are treated and i would eat meat if humans farmed humanly and only took ehat they need from tha land ect

Kind Regards
Alex

Watch the documentary "Earthlings" and you will find it even more disgusting. I do warn you though, this film is horrific and quite disturbing.

I do have to agree with you though, I'm a vegetarian as well because I just can't put meat in my mouth when I know what all those animals had to go through.

Not really, no. I think it's delicious.

And that's okay, I don't think you HAVE to understand why I don't feel the same way as you. I certainly don't feel compelled to understand why you don't feel the same way as me.

We don't have to understand why in order to mind our own goddamn business.

Funny how its easy to spot a meat eater, just follow the insults. Us vegans lead by the examble of kindness and compassion. We evolve when we live by principles, in harmony and respect to the world and its inhanitants
One day ppl will stop saying that meat tasts good and confront themselves with meat's real price and relize that there is somthing better and more satisfaying beyond their traditions

Peace to all

Evolved vegan

You don't understand because you were raised vegetarian. Most of us, including me, were raised eating meat and it is seen as normal.

vegan

Eating dead plants also sounds disgusting. Maybe that is why we don't call it eating dead animals but eating grilled steak with a fresh green salad.

It the I don't like it so no one else can theory. An excellent to alienate people. I hate bananas but I don't expect everyone else to hate them.

I totally agree with you! I think killing animals is wrong, cruel and unnecessary.

Depends on the animal I think :)

not at all it tastes sooooo goooood

Yeah, I'm so thoroughly disgusted with vegetarians who only eat grains and veggies and ignore the animals that die in the fields that I could scream!

Why is it ok to kill the bunny rabbits, field mice, moles, etc., under the tractor tires for plant food, but not ok to kill cows for meat?

And don't throw out the old "it's an accident" thing. It's not. You know animals are in the fields, I know, and the farmer for sure knows. Do you think the farming practices we know today would be allowed if there were human babies out in the fields instead of rabbit babies? It's a disgusting slaughter.....and then no one even eats them or uses their byproducts in everyday life. Disgusting, i say, disgusting.

"Animals of the field are killed by several factors, including:

1. Tractors and farm implements run over them.
2. Plows and cultivators destroy underground burrows and kill animals.
3. Removal of the crops (harvest) removes ground cover allowing animals on the surface to be killed by predators.
4. Application of pesticides.

So, every time the tractor goes through the field to plow, disc, cultivate, apply fertilizer and/or pesticide, harvest, etc., animals are killed. And, intensive agriculture such as corn and soybeans (products central to a vegan diet) kills far more animals of the field than would extensive agriculture like forage production, particularly if the forage was harvested by ruminant animals instead of machines. So perhaps fewer animals would be killed by producing beef, lamb, and dairy products for humans to eat instead of the vegan diet envisioned by Regan."

So you're saying that we shouldn't take the life of other animals?
Even though we're at the top of the food chain and kill them for food?
Are you serious? People don't agree with you because you're insane.
That's like trying to tell snakes not to eat mice; it's not going to happen

ALSO BACON - my only evidence that omnivore>vegetarian

EDIT- Know better? We are eating a very high protein/nutritious food with meat. I think we're pretty smart eating it as it is

We bred the animal to eat it though, it wouldn't have lived without us.

But for 10 points, yes, it's very disgusting and wrong, I have no idea why everyone isn't a vegetarian. :)
