Are chlorella and spirulina pretty much the same?!

Question: Are chlorella and spirulina pretty much the same?
I'm trying to eat more healthy, so I'm interested in trying the two. I've heard tons of good things about chlorella, but I've also heard some horror stories involving sever vomiting, diarrhea, and trips to the ER.

Is spirulina pretty much the same as chlorella? If I take spirulina alone will I generally get the same benefits I would get if I were taking chlorella?
.

Answers:

As far as a nutrient standpoint they are similar at providing a wide range of nutrients. The reason they can be lethal has to do with bacteria and water. Its when water is polluted that the bacteria seem to become vicious or agitated. Spirulina has the same risk as chlorella. Good question by the way I had to think about this and I only in the past year learned about algae for health so I am no expert.

I don't know about the relative dietary benefits, but Spirulina and Chlorella are completely different organisms. Spirulina is a cyanobacter or blue-green alga, whereas Chlorella is a single-cell green alga.

Totoro!

Sorry. I just saw your pic and I couldn't help myself XD
