Is this will get in the way of being vegetarian?!

Question: Is this will get in the way of being vegetarian?
I have very weird thoughts, that even I become a vegetarian, but my cat and my dog still not and never will be,so I don't see the point of I eat vegetables but I still feed the meats to my pets.Confuse me as hell!

Answers:

The vast majority of vegetarians and vegans continue to feed their carnivorous pets meat, because they need meat as the main part of their diet. I'm vegan. I wouldn't stop giving my two cats meat because it would be detrimental to their health.
Humans are perfectly able to be healthy without including any animal products in their diet, but not all animals are.

I'm vegan and I have two cats and a dog. All three eat high-quality (Wellness/Blue Buffalo) wet food.

If you want your companions to live a long, fulfilling, and healthy life, continue to feed them a carnivorous diet, as they'd have in nature. Otherwise, you're seriously jeopardizing their health.

A true vegan believes in showing compassion to animals, their equals; therefore, any vegan that forces a harmful herbivore diet upon a biologically-carnivorous companion is a hypocrite.

Please, do NOT let anyone convince you to switch to vegan dog/cat food. (Yes, it exists.) Your animals would never choose it themselves, and abusing our ability to force them is not true to vegan(/vegetarian) morals!

Vegan w/ 2 Cats, 1 Dog

Every person who quits eating meat saves an average of 100 animals a year... That makes a difference. As far as animals go, cats NEED meat, that is how they are designed. Dogs CAN be vegan, but I'm not sure about the effects of it (I'm a cat person, so I know more about them). The way to deal with this is to search out responsible pet food companies who don't test on animals, and who aren't being cruel to animals. Also as a side note, only buy premium food for them (this cannot be found at Walmart) if you aren't already.

Look at a cat/dogs mouth. Now look at yours. They are designed for eating meat, their teeth, their digestive tract, their claws, etc. People however, have flat teeth, not for ripping and tearing flesh. While we can eat meat there is no biological need to like there is for carnivorous animals.

PETA, and being a pet owner and vegan.

Well,

1. A reduction in your contribution to the meat industries is better than none.
2. Vegetarians eat far more than vegetables. There are more then two food groups.
3. Despite the apparently-widespread ignorance on the subject, cats and dogs can survive and thrive on a vegan diet, so long as it is certified nutritionally-fortified pet food. Just like with humans, nutrition matters. Not the source.
4. Learn english.

cats and dogs are natural meat eaters and carnivores.

Watch them eat. All meat eating animals don't chew their food, they gulp it down. They all do this.
They have sharp toothpicks for teeth, they only eat food with their jaw going up and down, not side to side.

Now watch a cow, sheep , human, They chew their food a lot, they have to. They have flat edges teeth. They chew going side to side and up and down and back and forth.

Animals designed to be meat eaters are completely different, and dogs and cats are meat eating species.
Just watch them eat, or watch a lion eat- no chewing, they are not supposed to chew, only gulp.
They get their nutrients for the fat and salt in meat, NOT vitamins and water from vegetation.

MEat eaters do not have digestive saliva to break down starch- they jsut don't have it. All plant eating animals, cows, sheep , humans, have primarily saliva which contains amylase and lipase to break down sugars and starches in food.

Meat eating animals do not ever have this.

So your cat and dog are designed to eat meat.

Yeah, vegetarians confuse me as hell too.

If you want to become a vegetarian, go ahead. Continue to feed your pets meat based diets, that is what they eat. Just don't boast that you don't kill or use animals and all will be good.

I am a vegetarian and I still feed my cats cat food which I'm not happy about but they need meat but I should look into buying some healthier brands because I do not feel good about them eating only god knows what goes into that stuff...ugghh

Is English your second language , by any chance?
You are correct, eating meat is the natural way of the world. Vegans upset the BALANCE of nature. Vegans are bringing Armageddon ever closer.

the point is that you are helping the environment by not eating meat. period. I have posted this about a thousand times on here. Look it up.

most vegetarians still feed there pets meat if they're the kind that eat meat(you know, not a rabbit or something).
good luck in your decision :)

You're right. You're still supporting the meat industry by feeding your pets meat based foods. And that's what they need to eat. Dogs can be vegan, if you're very careful about their diet. Cats need meat or they'll die.

And if you drink Silk brand soy milk, they are owned by Dean Foods...a major conventional dairy company. So the money you pay for Silk goes to support a cow dairy, too.
