Im thinking about becoming vegeterian but my mom hates the idea?!

Question: Im thinking about becoming vegeterian but my mom hates the idea?
I live with my mom and 2 sisters. My dad every other weekend. Iv ate meat my entire life but I feel bad for the poor animals and id like to be healthier. Im not overweight im a good weight. Iv told my sisters and mom that I want to lose some weight im a 7 and want to be a 5. Im 15. My oldest sister and mom are overweight. I dont want that lifestyle to happen for me. I only eat eggwhites not the yoke and they already get aggrivated at me for that. I do it simply because I like the taste and dont like the yoke they think im doing it to become skinny. Iv mentioned becoming vegeterian before and they look at me like im crazy saying how I wont get anough protein so its not as healthy because proteins healthy. They dont understand that I want to do it for the animals because iv ate meat my entire life. They make meat every night for supper my mom will get mad if i dont eat it. What to do? OH! and i have bad acne would becoming a vegeterian help that or not?

Answers:

So according to them, the only way to get protein is meat and egg yolk????

They are ignorant.
SOrry if that is rude Im not trying to be rude.
But come off it= lentils, chickpeas, pinto beans, fava, kidney, black, lima and navy beans have ALL got more protein than meat AND fibre and iron too. No animal fat either, which is an extremely bad fat to eat.

Spinach has protein, also peanuts, almonds walnuts, cashews, brazil nuts.Peanut butter etc.
Brown rice, broccoli and spinach- soymilk, soy cheese, tofu, yoghurt, cottage cheese, ice cream even! has protein, iron and calcium. Nuts have calcium and protein.

Your family sounds uneducated- that's why you're coming here. A good thing.
Print out a list of foods that have protein- actually it's on most foods and even one yoghurt ( soy yogurt or cow milk) has protein enough for you.

You mom willget mad if you don't do a lot of things too. Not just eating vegetarian meals.
Buy lentils and chickpeas yourself. Cook them- canned is fine. Show her a bowl of chickpeas smothered in lovely soychees, or normal cheese and say "these have more proetin than a greasy lump of gristle and animal meat".

Stick to your beliefs, and also mention that chickpeas are WAY cheaper than meat, all the legumes and beans are cheaper. They're the cheapest food in the world.

And mention that if vegetarians died from malnutrition, then how come the whole of India- 700 million people and the cleverest heartiest people in the world, are still going strong after 8000 years of being vegetarian???????????

VEgetarianism night help your skin.

Eating masses of vitamin C will help- papaya, pineapple, peaches, apples.

well im a 13 year old vegan so im the person to answer this question.
the rest of my family is omnivoric.
tell her it is a personal decision and that u will cook your own meals.
btw americans eat 2x the amount of protein youre supposed to, so a vegitarian or vegan diet is MUCH healthier

13 yr. old vegan!

As long as you are living with your mother eat what she cooks. When you get a job, pay your own way and cook your own meals then you can cook whatever you want.

Above all else, do not argue about this with your mother. It will get you nowhere fast and it will in no way show her that you are mature enough to handle making this kind of descision. You will only cause her to become more firmly entrenched.

Offer to cook one night a week. Make otherwise-standard foods that contain little or no meat and do not have weird ingredients. Find recipes for them. Make things like pepper & cheese & mushroom omelets, minestrone soup & biscuits, chili, burritos, spinach & onion quiche, macaroni & cheese (the real stuff from scratch, baked, not that boxed junkfood) or even tuna-noodle casserole. It's not real meat, it's fish. That way, you are getting your mom used to the idea that normal food can be vegetarian and contain enough protein.

I know how you feel. I'm 14 now and I went veg at 11 and my parents weren't so happy either. After over two years of being vegetarian my parents have gone from being very unsuportive to being very suportive. Tell them why your doing this. Show them clips of factory farms on YouTube and show them all the vegetarian athletes. Explain the health benifits you'll get from being vegetarian. You can eat beans, nuts, seeds, tofu, tempeh, leafy greens, whole grains and eggs. When everyone else is eating meat you can have a hard boild or fried egg, crackers, hummus, beans or veggie meat.

Just be yourself. Don't let anyone force their ideas and types of behaviors onto you. You know that being a vegetarian helps animals and you're aware of the overweight issue with meat eaters, so you should take actions you believe to be right. Try to persuade your family by your own actions, because actions speak more than words. Do some research more about vegetarian food to help yourselves find favorable diets to stick with. There is an abundance of plant food that are great for humans. Consider about these: leafy green vegetables, fresh fruits, whole grains; avoid canned products; if you find it hard to consume a lot of vegetables and fruits, try making juice and smoothies. Serve your meals and drinks to your family, little by little everyday.
About your acne, yes being a vegetarian can help, but make sure that during the cooking of food, don't overcook them, cook them with water or steam only. That way you can ensure vitamins, minerals and enzymes in food are not largely lost. Overcooked food don't help you erase acne.
And remember that what you do is for kindness and compassion, always show great care and love for others despite their different points of views
Good luck

bottom line is, if your parents arent willing to buy and prepare food for you to get all your nutrients while being vegetarian, youre just going to have to wait until you are buying your own food and making your own meals to become a vegetarian.. you cant just stop eating meat and continue to eat the other "regular" food your family fixes. you need to have some source of protein and other nutrients you have been getting from meat. since they arent willing to go along with it and change the waythey shop and cook you are just going to have to wait. youve ate meat this long, you can wait until y oure on your own and buying your own food to worry about it.

i dont think being a vegetarian will help acne, you might want to avoid greasy foods and chocolate, and get a good acne cream and face scrub.

don't be a vegetarian! it's not healthy! I mean yeah poor animals but you have to eat protein to be healthy don't worry about weight!
