What are the rules for being a vegan?!

Question: What are the rules for being a vegan?
I know you're not supposed to eat meat or anything that comes from an animal, but what else is there?

Thanks!

Answers:

No animal products - this includes food, clothing, and any products you use on your body, at home, etc. However, that does not mean sit in your home in fear of getting into a car and squashing a bug with your windshield wipers: veganism is about reducing animal cruelty as much as is practical and possible.
Don't listen to Daisy. She likes to throw around misinformation from different sites. This includes the "issue" with having animals at home. Plenty of vegans have animals at home. They've even said it here over and over again, yet Daisy only likes to listen to what perpetuates her ignorant beliefs.
And sorry, GC, I meant to give you a thumbs up and accidentally clicked thumbs down.

vegan :D

Veganism is a lifestyle. So we avoid all products containing animal products like clothes, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, as well as foods which contain slaughterhouse by products or other animal products.

However there aren't rules as such because it is not a religion or an organised thing. It is just a matter of doing your best to avoid the use of animal PRODUCTS (not pets LOL) wherever possible and in particular when there are alternatives available.

Boldly claim that you don't use, kill or exploit animals. If somebody starts to point out the numerous ways that you do use animals, either blindly deny it, or turn the conversation into an attack on non-vegetarians. Resume claiming that you don't use, kill or exploit animals.

Pretend that you are saving 100 animals per year. If you are asked to explain how, make some vague reference to "supply and demand". Insult the person asking.

Consider it your social responsibility to "educate" non-vegetarians. They should all now be considered ignorant. Use emotionally charged language, such as "murder" "torture" "barbaric" and "sentient beings".

Exaggerate the health benefits of your new diet. Tell people your skin is clearer, your hair is shinier, you are stronger, smarter, and your fecal matter no longer stinks.

Tell people that you know more about nutrition than doctors.

Tell people you know more about human evolution than anthropologists. Tell them that humans were physically designed to be herbivores, and support it by misinterpreting some of the physical comparisons with herbivorous animals. Claim that the average adult has 20 pounds of meat rotting in their intestines.

Insult, criticize, and condemn non-vegetarians at every opportunity. Claim to be more compassionate than they are.

Tell non-vegetarians that they cannot be animal lovers. Also tell them that they believe in God (whether they do or do not) and tell them that proves they are irrational.

Remind people that non-vegetarians are the cause of world hunger and global warming.

Pretend that humans are not part of the food chain, and that nobody "needs meat in this day and age".

Compare non-vegetarians to murderers, racists, and rapists. Compare hunters and fishermen to serial killers. They are to be the recipients of your most colorful insults.

At every opportunity, tell people that you are a vegan, and begin educating them. Then claim to be persecuted for being a vegan.

the vegetarian section on yahoo answers- it's all here.

That's pretty much it, alot of vegans have problems due to the fact that that they miss out on alot of nutrients. They use vietmens and supplements for what they miss out on... Well at least the smart ones do....

I know alot of health nuutz, I know vegans vegetarians raw food eaters and basically any way you end up deciding to eat. I can name Someone I know who does it

The definition of vegan is an individual who does not consume any animal or animal-derived ingredients (gelatin, carmine, etc).

Thats it + they won't use animal tested products/medicines, there may be some nitty-gritty things that are hidden as animal derived such as crushed beetles used in cosmetics & gelatin/animal stock cubes etc

There are no "rules." But for products you may wish to avoid, visit: http://www.veganwolf.com/animal_ingredie…

You can only eat stuff from the ground.... No milk or eggs

Used to be vegetarian

No pets. Vegans believe animals are not ours to use in any way. So you're not suppposed to have a pet because you benefit from his love and affection.

Truth is there's no such thing as a "vegan." Vegans and all of us use byproducts of animal slaughter every day, like the tires on your car, the streets, fabric softener in your laundry, the glues in your book bindings, the electricity you use. Those are just a few of the things that contain byproducts of animal slaughter. Vegans just pretend they don't use animals.

And, of course, they ignore the deaths of animals in the field during the grain and veggie production that they rely on for their diet.

ADDED: LOL! Vegans are hypocrites. Some of them continue to own animals and feed them meat, but say I shouldn't eat meat. They say animals have rights. Yet they spay and neuter their pets. Real vegans don't use animals. To take away their basic "right" to reproduce is not vegan. To shut them up in cages is not vegan. To leave them shut up in an apartment/house while they go off to school and the movies is not vegan. Neither do vegans ride horses. But again, there's actually no such thing as a vegan.
