Is it hypocritical of me as a vegan to...?!

Question: Is it hypocritical of me as a vegan to...?
Before I became a vegan I bought toms(shoes), which have a suede sole. Now that I'm vegan, I still wear them because I spent a lot if money on them. On one hand, I understand why it would be wrong; I mean, vegans don't wear animal skins. But on the other hand, I already bought the shoe, the animal is already dead. So why throw them out ?

This question comes up quite a bit. It's mostly symbolic of your new philosophy to get rid of what you already own-- and a symbol of your commitment to your new lifestyle. It makes no difference for that animal. The main idea is to stop consuming or buying those products. Where it may be difficult is when you tell someone you're vegan, and they say, "nice LEATHER shoes." So if you're going to be involved in animal welfare or rights activities, donate the shoes and buy new ones. Another thing to consider is if someone notices your shoes, likes them, and asks where they can buy them. You can always tell them you're a vegan in transition and gradually replacing what you own as it wears out. You're not expected to have the money to go buy all new things, but if you are able, it's a good thing. If not, just shop around for new shoes while those are wearing out. If it's just the sole that's suede, I don't think anyone will even notice. As far as I'm concerned, it's not important.

Veganism is not a perfection. There are no perfect vegans. The idea is to eliminate animal-derived foods from your diet, and wherever practical or possible, stop consuming the animal products elsewhere. If it's possible to get rid of the shoes right now, great. If not, it matters not. You're going to replace them eventually. Change doesn't have to happen overnight, and it's great that it's happening at all. I don't know if you noticed, but Tom's sells vegan shoes also. http://www.toms.com/catalogsearch/result…

It's up to you. Some people are reminded of the animal every time they wear the product, others (like yourself) justify it by saying you bought it before going vegan and it's not like the animal will come back to life if you stop wearing the shoes.

You don't have to throw away your expensive shoes and all your other clothes after you go vegan. Just buy vegan-friendly clothes as your current clothes get old.
So after those shoes are old, too small, or whatever and you need a new pair, just buy a vegan kind:)

It's not up to anyone put you. You are the only one that defines what you are and how far you want to go into the veganism.
I, personally, have not thrown away my very expensive leather shoes, because they were gifts and I don't want to be offensive.

Don't throw them out. Wear them until they're too scruffy to wear anymore, or if it bothers you so much to wear them pass them along to a friend who can still make good use of them.

My shoes have hole in them. It doesn't bother me to wear them that much even though I am vegan and they have leather. My next pair will be vegan, though.

Zappos.com has lots of vegan shoes.

It's shoes? It doesn't matter. Just don't tell ur other vegan friends

Don't throw them away, just don't buy anymore.

No, you bought them before you went vegan.

My question is Why do you have to label yourself as a vegan? Why not just human? Does being a vegan gain anything? I you label yourself as a human, buying a leather..........or eat a .......... (you fill in the blanks) wouldn't bother any normal person. Sounds like eather you are not a true vegan, or, don't want to be deep inside. Just be human and do what YOU want. The heck with ANYBODY who thinks you're wrong. As long as your actions are not illegal or don't effect anybody, DO WHAT YOU WANT!!!!!!!!
