Question for vegans and vegetarians?!

Question: Question for vegans and vegetarians?
Do you get peeved when someone says Happy Turkey Day? I know it probably dumb to get annoyed over or maybe its just a peeve of mine. But what do you think or say when someone wishes you a Happy Turkey Day? I just try to shrug it and say Happy Thanksgiving.

?I get extremely annoyed? I don't think the turkey would like anyone to say that to them!!!

I feel uncomfortable. But they don't know any better. We vegetarians only make up 3% of the population - supposedly - and everyone else eats meat most, half or some of the time - so I guess it's natural to say that.

I only enlighten them about my dietary habits if they delve deeper: "Did you get your turkey yet?" Then I just say, "My husband, children and I are vegetarians we eat tofu and vegetables that day." Then they either look uncomfortable, upset or sometimes they say "You know I never liked eating turkey anyway. It's the least favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal." Or "If it wasn't for my family, I'd be a vegetarian too.

Happy Turkey Day is funny because the holiday is supposed to mark the time the Pilgrims came to America in 1620 in search of religious freedom from persecution, Native Americans helped the survivors who didn't die from malnutrition, cold and disease, hunt game and grow food in the settlement. Then both parties shared the first Thanksgiving and signed a treaty to not war with each other for 57 years. It's not just about eating.

Frankly, I find it irritating and I'm just fine with eating turkey. It implies that people have forgotten what the original purpose of Thanksgiving was.

.. What's the purpose of Thanksgiving again? I'd say I forgot but I actually never knew.

I don't care what anyone says. This day is for me and my family. If you are not in my family you can say anything you want about this day. If someone else believes this day is just all about eating turkey then so be it, Its their life.

I've never heard that before.
Probably 'cause I don't celebrate Thanksgiving.
Then again, if I did hear it, I'd probably have the same reaction as you.

Not really. It's just something said without thinking really. People associate turkeys with Thanksgiving. I haven't really been wished that though.

Reply and say "Happy DEAD turkey day!"... then smile and say "Just kidding, happy thanksgiving to you too", that way you are able to get your annoyance out while at the same time you are just joking around!

If you were sarcastic and didn't want friends, you could reply with:

"Happy shove another bird down your throat day"

Tofu rocks.

It doesn't bother me at all. It is just a habit to say that on their part. Hope you had a nice veggie Thanksgiving.

It bothers me, but I don't do anything about it. I'm used to being around meat eaters by now.

It does me! The purpose of thanksgiving is not to eat turkey.

It irritates me a little. The holiday is about being thankful for what you have, not scarfing down a dead bird.

Start eating turkey then it won't bother you.

Hello

"not really, it was murdered"

I've never thought about that.
So I guess no, it doesn't bother me.
