why in the US are pure red apples the most popular, I think they are the crappiest type!?!

Question: Why in the US are pure red apples the most popular, I think they are the crappiest type!?
First off I love apples yet I know its everyones least favorite fruit, yet it happens to be my favorite.

But something I have noticed in the US is people judge vegetables and fruits by how they "appear" rather then how they taste. For example the red apple which is kinda gooey and does not have that crush and crisp taste that other apples have.

While there are so many great varieties my actual favorite is simply the multicolored ones, the ones that are yellow and red those are the best.

Not all red apples are not crunchy and juicy, Red Delicious, Royal Gala and Pink Lady are usually very nice.

Stark Delicious are usually crispy and juicy.

The apples from the right places and right time would be very nice but when they are not so ideal to eat alone and fresh, make them into pie and strudel will solve the problem.

First there are many different kinds of apples grown in the US. Second not all are red. If you are talking about eating Red Delicious apples they are specifically a US native apple that has over 60 different cultivars . Like most fruit trees apples are not grown from seed but rather from clones.

Specifically the Red Delicious differs in taste and texture depending on which cultivars grown. Also, since they are a natural fruit, their growth depends on nature. Much like a grape there are seasons when good apples are grown and when not so good apples are grown. Allot depends on temperatures and humidity levels for that year. But if you do not like the taste of them simply do not eat them.

But if you are talking about other US apples, to which one are you referring? There are over 20 varieties and each have about 50 cultivars for over 1000 different kinds of apples grown in the US.

I'm not sure what you mean by "pure red apples". There are tons of different breeds of both red and green and even multi-colored apples. Some red apples are nice & crispy & juicy, while others are slightly mushy & better suited for baking. My personal favorite for eating as is is Granny Smith, which is green, really crisp & juicy & slightly tart.

For the same reason that tomatoes are bred to be large and red... Because they fit with the consumer ideal of what a tomato should look like. I prefer much smaller sweeter and juicier tomatoes. Eggs (if you eat them) are often brownish in colour (at least in the UK) however natural chicken eggs are in fact white. The brown colour looks more 'natural' in the mind of the consumer and so the chickens are bred to give brownish eggs. That is truly horrible as they often contain 'blood spots' (not actually blood but overly pigmented areas occurring because the pigment has been bred into them).

Red or multi-coloured isn't much of a way to describe an apple. There are many many varieties of apples that are red and they're all different, as are the multi-coloured or green ones.. Sounds to me like you're judging by appearance too.

They're popular because they're easy to preserve for a long time, which is why they're in school lunches, at restaurants, and many other places. That's why they aren't crispy, they have almost no water in them, it's all dried-up apple cells.

You have no idea what you are talking about. There are MANY different types of red apples here in the US. And most of them have a different taste, size, and crunch.

They are cheaper to produce and ideal. America is cheap and typical.
