Is thanksgiving the LEAST favorite holiday for vegetarians?!

Question: Is thanksgiving the LEAST favorite holiday for vegetarians?
Answers:

Thanksgiving, at least if we are talking about the US Thanksgiving is a holiday about family and giving thanks. It is not about food nor what you eat. In fact what people eat for Thanksgiving changes from family to family.

Given that Thanksgiving is about family it is one of my most favorite holidays. But then again I am not a vegetarian.

When I was a vegetarian, the only thing I didn't like about Thanksgiving was my brother berating me for being so rude as to not eat the ham and turkey that was put on the table at such effort and expense. The answer to that, of course, was to stop going to family holiday meals, and get myself invited to friend's homes - where no one minded at all if I skipped the meat, and loaded my plate up with veggies and mashed potatoes, especially since I always offer to help in the kitchen. There are so many perfectly delicious ways to make dressing, potatoes, sweet potatoes, even gravy, and many other holiday favorites, without using meat. Even the stricter vegan plans have plenty of delicious holiday recipes to fill up the plate, and please the palate.

Yeah. Its a horrid holiday. People think its okay to celebrate food and family only one day a year? That should be should celebrated everyday. People don't even eat the healthier foods that Thanksgiving originated from. Thanksgiving is survival because of a healthy harvest. Yet somehow modern Thanksgiving is all turkey and out of a can sides.

I think it makes the most difference on the vegetarians family attitude.

If the family accepts that you're a vegetarian, you will enjoy the holiday just fine. But if you've got members of the family that think you need to be cured, and keep insisting you eat meat, then it's not much fun.

I was thinking that yesterday. For me, I'm still haunted by a ghost from thanksgiving past. We once canceled thanksgiving with some trouble-making relatives to avoid the predictable.

Then last night I saw this on the net at nationalgeographic.com

"Return to Green and Grateful This Thanksgiving"

"British economist Lord Stern and American novelist Jonathan Safran Foer, among others, are promoting vegetarianism as the most responsible and ethical choice for the planet."

It'd be good if - one day (unfortunately when the world gets bad enough - Thanksgiving will become a vegan feast, celebrating the SOURCE of what gives us life.

All I had was stuffing. Seriously. And it tasted like crap because they're serious about the turkey gives the stuffing flavoring thing. But I was thankful. =) The food is just one part of the holiday. Of course I didn't have any family over either.... and I'm thankful everyday but hey...
*looks around*

It's not my LEAST favorite holiday but I dislike the lead up to it because I'm always concerned with gaining weight. The dinner is a bit too gluttonous for me. My personal feelings about Thanksgiving are no reflection of my vegan lifestyle.

Vegan

I'm vegan and I love Thanksgiving. I don't think you'll find any correlation between veg'nism & favorite or least favorite holidays. People like or dislike certain holidays for lots of reasons. I personally hate Christmas and wish it could be Halloween every day. :)

Yes, but not because I'm a vegetarian. Apparently, the night before Thanksgiving is when the most people die from drunk driving.

Don't be silly.

Thanksgiving is about being grateful and about sharing. The food is secondary.

It's my least favorite holiday. Not because I don't eat turkey, but because so many of them are slaughtered.

It is probably least popular with turkeys.

No - I live in the UK so don't do it and don't miss it.
Christmas is enough

Yes, and they wish they were not vegetarians.
