Question For Vegetarians?!

Question: Question For Vegetarians?
I am glad to say that I am slowly starting to become a Vegetarian, I am not completely there yet unfortunately. However, I thought the process would help to not eat animals if I started to eat Garden Burgers and Tofu, but I am unsure if a garden burger and tofu are the same thing and was wondering if someone could tell me if they are or aren't. And if they aren't what is the difference between the two? And also I was wondering if someone who eats garden burgers/tofu could tell me the best brands to buy in the Supermarket that taste really good?

-Garden burgers are usually made with vegetables and grains.
-Tofu is basically a soy product and has a soft texture and extrememly mild flavour.

Gardenburgers are great in things from burgers to chopped up and added into recipies. I find that i like tofu best when it is fried and in a curry or stir fry dish.

As for name brands and stuff, I prefer the Gardenburger Sun dried tomato. Another great thing to get that is great for recipies and stuff is Morning Star. They have everything from veggie burgers to imitation ground beef which is absolutely delicious.

For tofu its all about what YOU like. Will have to expirament around with different brands. I suggest buying firm tofu and not the silken kind because the smoothness of the silken can sometimes be a very differnt texture if you arent used to that kind of thing.

TOFU

I am also slowy becoming a vegetarian also. I am deciding not to eat red meat :P it is pretty gross

And a garden burger is...well a burger. My mom has had one, and she only eats white meat, so i'm guessing it's a burger with chicken. I do like veggie burgers though. Tofu is made out of protien (because vegetarians don't get the protien they need from meat, obviously), and is most likley found in asian recipes. For example, Thai spring rolls contain tofu, and Japanese miso soup has it also. But you can find some good tofu brands at your local grocery store, and for the garden burger, you may find some good recipes for that, too. So tofu and a garden burger defnetly have a difference.

Hope I helped, and good luck with your decision of becoming a vegetarian!

Garden burgers are usually more processed and have rice and vegetables mixed into it. Even though garden burgers are good, they are quite processed so don't eat them too regularly:D

Vegan

Well, there's no reason to "slowly start" to become vegetarian. I went from omnivore to vegan overnight and didn't have any problems.

Tofu and Gardenburgers aren't the same thing. Here's the difference!

Tofu is made from cultured soybeans. You know how you make cheese by culturing milk? Well, you do the same thing with soybeans and that's how you get tofu: curdle soymilk, clump together, and that's how tofu happens. Check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSQ06e78h…

Tofu comes in a few "densities" based on how much water is in them.
Silken and soft tofu are very soft and many people use them to make mousse, smoothies, and things that require a nice, creamy texture.
Firm and Extra Firm tofus can be diced and used like you would use chicken: saute, deep-fry, pan-fry, baked, simmered in soups, etc..
All of these can be found in a regular grocery stores in the produce section or "vegetarian section," and can also be found in the refrigerated section of an Asian market.
There's another kind you'll find in the Asian market, vacuum-sealed and "extra firm," these are very, very dense and can also be used like chicken.

Gardenburgers do contain processed soybeans, but also flavoring and other many artificial things. These are in the shape of hamburgers. There are other types of non-meat burgers, like black bean burgers, vegetable burgers, and a variety of other processed burgers.

The "best brands" to buy really are going to be up to your taste buds. Honestly, don't rely too heavily on this stuff...just eat well-rounded meals!
